The novel Artamne ou le Grand Cyrus by Madeleine and Georges de Scudry. Been reading it since Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. I'm on page 4,188 almost 1/3 done. It has 13,095 pages but reads fast.

I would much like to discuss with you the many faces presented the world by the Mitfords. It would necessarily, of course, require an extended period of time (which would not be a problem for me -- as long as my mind and breath no further regress). While having read fairly extensively of them, I am not a scholar and would expect to be enlightened, in an overall sense, by you and would anticipate a greatly enjoyable experience. I must note, however, that having seen, in your mention of the de Scudry novel, what I'm sure is an indication of the "league" you read in, and while I would be more than happy to give it a go I'm afraid the main impression I would leave on you would be "boring". I sadly neither speak or read French, which is not a good start for Nancy or Diana.

The Count of Monte Cristo. Listening, actually. It's about 48 hours long.

Ha ha yeah I ordered that book a couple years ago. I love the story and I'm quite sure I read it in high school but when I got it, I was like there's no way I read a book this long in high school. I started it, but I didn't finish it this time around. Maybe I'll try the audiobook.

I found 12 Drizzt the drow books at a used book store and have been reading through them.

Not as good as I remembered but still fun. They were not cheap and my wife thinks I am immature now

If you made it this long without your wife thinking you are immature, you have done well.

Audiobooks are acceptable if you supplement with actual reading.

Like listening to something on your commute or a road trip is fine. But you should be actually reading a book as well. Otherwise you come off as either lazy or illiterate.

Nah audiobooks count regardless.

This isn't a competition to show how smart or educated you are. You read or listen to audiobooks for enjoyment and it doesn't matter what someone else thinks "counts".

It's that same attitude that drives people and especially kids away from reading. Same thing with people who say reading graphic novels don't count as reading.

Disagree. It activates entirely different parts of the brain for me. Reading a comic book (let's call them what they are) or listening to someone tell me a story does not hit the same as reading text. I have no idea if there are studies that support this but I'd be surprised if there aren't.

This is like saying I don't need to eat vegetables because I take vitamins. Sure you MIGHT be getting some similar nutrients but one is probably much better for you than the other.

Just my opinion.

Its a little like saying that typing notes is the same as handwriting them. Handwriting is way better for you.
