For the most part, he stays neutral and just does reporting. But when he does commentary, you can't help but push liberal talking points

The civil forfeiture laws are EXTREMELY one sided to favor the government. If the GOP doesn't use them first, we will see them polished and ready to draw blood at the first Dem opportunity. A better strategy is to lean hard on them now, and let the judiciary and possibly congress take the teeth out of them before power turns over.

It's not unusual for sure. But it is usually used against people that don't have the money to fight, or where the amount confiscated isn't worth the legal bills to recover.

My comment about the Trump DOJ is that they rarely overplay their hand. They are much better at making the other side overtip THEIR hand and getting B-slapped by SCOTUS.

We even have a special department in Treasury whose sole expertise is civil and criminal forfeiture. We need to let these guys loose on criminal bureaucrats in a crippling way, in cases that have venue outside of DC. Get these guys to quit focusing on corporate shake-downs and drug runners, and get them focused on people stealing from the US government.

The judge on the Venezuelan TPS cases did the same thing. Judge Illston didn't do that here as she ended up with the same plaintiffs filing a new complaint based on the shutdown. But in her earlier TRO she had left 3 of the 7 claims raised in the complaint unaddressed when she issued the TRO -- just in case.
