I've tried contacting a few people and haven't gotten any information, but Glock Store seems to think that they are going to discontinue their most popular models. Not sure I can believe it, but with all the clones out in the world I have to wonder if it is more about a new platform that isn't compatible with clones or is it really about the switch.

It's surprising it took gungrabber lawfare to get Glock to innovate. Perhaps they can mimick the Walther and Canik pre-cocked striker systems.

I would bet they have been working on changes for quite awhile and just waiting for the right moment to...pull the trigger.

Pointing out the obvious bit this a huge day in gun history. Huge day. Biggest day in any measure of recent history.

I have a GSSF coupon burning a hole in my pocket for a G47

I was planning to get a G19.5 MOS with the coming years coupon but I'm likely to buy one sans coupon now.

Looks like I'm buying a Blue Label tomorrow.

Which 9mm should I buy?

(I already have 19's, 17's, etc, so... maybe 17L? 19x?)

The "improvements" are compliance measures for new California regulations I believe. Could be wrong but if it's true you can bet they won't be improvements.

Have seen that they are trying to make them incompatible with switches and other modifications to get them automatic or faux automatic.

But yes, does seem to be CA compliance based. They won their case there and other states will follow suit of course. So this will likely go to SCOTUS.

Funny how it takes gun grabbers to get THE gun giant to move quickly and force them rapidly innovate and make changes…

Was just looking for opinions if this was an improvement or not. I prefer rifles and shotguns but do have several Glocks. Looks like I might be adding a couple new 19s to my safe. I like the simplicity of the current Glock.

Still a lot of G3 clones out there. No reason to panic buy.

Glock is genius. Create a panic so that everyone buys Gen 5 at inflated prices. Instead of the alternative that Gen 5 prices crater as it becomes clear that new/better models are coming.

This is dumb. Glock doesn't see a penny of any inflated prices.

It moves inventory quickly which is indirectly $ in Glock's pocket.

Glock is dealing with several.lawsuits based around the switch and this is part of the response. The new V generation is incompatible with the switch which is also why the 43x and 48 models remain active as they are also incompatible being slimline. The regular 43 is useless anyway with the 43x and was already shelved.

And you think the change driven by lawsuits is going to end up being better?

I wonder how long it will take for the 3D printer folks take to figure out how to make a switch for the v-series.

No I don't the new will be better, but I have no say in the decisions Glock makes. I think this is more in line with record companies pushing DVDs after cassettes took over for vinyl records. Folls will run out and buy the latest version of the guns they already have. In reality this is just Gen 6 but with actual significant changes versus just removing finger grooves.

More incremental changes that drags Glock into the 21st century and up closer to its competitors. That being said, it's all a positive of course if you are into Glock. MSRP will be on par with Gen 5 MOS.

Hmm, so will this have a more flexible better optics mount system. Sounds like it.

So, what was the point of releasing the V series for 5 minutes if they already had the Gen 6 so close to production?

they were trying to dodge a glock switch lawsuit but failed because criminals made one for the V series in 10 minutes....

I think you meant CDs but even with that, I'm not sure this is a good analogy. For one, music CD sales didn't start taking off until the mid-80s at the earliest (actually, it was more like the late '80s) even though the format arrived in '82 and two, when people switched over, they first bought the new CDs and only gradually replaced their tape/vinyl collection over time. Besides, replacing a tape costs $13 and even someone who only made $5 an hour full time in '86 or '87 could still afford a couple of CDs a month. 6 a year at the absolute minimum. This was not only my experience (I think I bought my first CD in '85) but also that of just about everyone I knew. Some didn't start buying CDs until the '90s. Remember, we all had tape decks in our cars. Car CD players were luxury items, mostly, and until the mid/late '90s weren't seen in a lot of cars. Thus, tapes still had their use.

Few buy anywhere near 6 guns a year (or even a decade for that matter -- I don't, and I have shot a lot over the years and have owned many guns), even for replacement purposes. I had my USP for almost 20 years even though I didn't like the DA/SA on it. I did replace the original LCP with the LCP Custom, but that was like 2-3 years later. Still have the Custom along with a G42.

I do, however, agree that that this is essentially a Gen6, but like already posted, how long is it going to take to develop the same device to go on these new guns? Not long, I'd say, unless the engineering of the gun makes it impossible. We'll see.
