Personal stories are fine.

Seems like overall height(lowest height) and the weight of the pod is the biggest difference?

I don't think the bantam gets tall enough for a normal man to use it standing up.

Depending on age of your boys and how tall you think they will be, I would avoid the bantam.

Do y'all do a lot of spot n stalk hunting or what will the main purpose of these tripods be? Unload from a pickup and set up? I got the Deathgrip Infinite carbon from Optics Planet about a year ago on a huge sale for like $250. But I carry mine around when glassing in the Davis Mountains and for clients to shoot and didn't want the added weight of the aluminum setup.

I just checked price and it's like $400-425 everywhere now. I love mine so much. It's nice to shoot off of with an ARCA rail or the deathgrip. Especially if you hang a weight bag or have a rock cradle to hang from hook when you shoot.

Edit: Actually the carbon is $319 on Amazon. That is a better price but still not $154.

Some spot and stalk, but probably also for turkeys, so the 20" lowest setting is attractive, the low overall height though means exactly what you said, no shooting from standing when they get older. My 11 YO is already close to 5' so that may also play into it.

But one weighing 2.5 lbs and the other 8.5 seems like a HUGE difference.

What's the reason for a rock bag or weight?

It just anchors/stabilizes the tripod when shooting standing up. I feel like I get a steadier sight picture, especially on windy days with the added weight. Some people just hang their gear bag, I have a little paracord cradle that I wrap around a rock and slip over hook, then just find a new rock the next time I set back up.

I have the deathgrip in aluminum. I modified it yo have a ball swivel mount with an Arca rail attachment. Then i put an Arac rail on the vice it comes with so I can swap out between a normal hunting rifle or an AR with Arca.

I like the adjustment of the legs. I am 6ft and don't extend it all the way when standing. I set it up in a small deer stand opening weekend and had no problems getting in position.

I have two of the aluminum deathgrips. Love them in the blinds or just a short walk and setup with a chair. But I wouldn't get one for walking/ hunting. Too much for one person to carry along with a gun and small pack. It does ok walking if one person carries tripod and one carries gun.

I'm guessing that maybe if I was going to get one for each, I should just get one of both.

I like the idea of being able to use it in a blind instead of the old pipe insulation on windows as that's noisy, plus the gun is then already mostly set up.

We have the death grip in carbon (i think...). Its what was used last night for my son getting his first deer. Like that it has SOO many adjustmemt points. Has made sighting in a rifle super easy. If setting low, it does take up a bit of ground space. Also light enough for a kid to easily carry and set up.

Also- they went on sale last year for black Friday.

I guess I'm in the minority. I have the deathgrip and really don't care for it. I would much rather have a ball mount. It is a bit cumbersome for walking. Used it quite a bit for spot/stalk hog hunts and it does get heavy after a while. It also bothers my OCD because I can never seem to get my rifle to seat perfectly straight. I'm sure it would be fine for stationary hunting, but I've never used it for that purpose. YMMV

I've been using Death Grips for several years now. Started with the original, and now have the carbon one. It is lighter than the OG, but the whole kit is still pretty heavy. That hasn't stopped me from lugging it up and down mountains occasionally chasing elk. I wouldn't go pronghorn hunting without it. It usually accompanies me to the deer blind, in case I see something on the way to/from that needs to be aireated. I've shot several pigs at 400+ doing that. It's plenty stable for that.

Overall, I really like it. Spend lots of time practicing, so you can adjust it without looking down. I usually try and get the height set before I start a stalk, you can even use it as a beefy monopod in a pinch. It's a GREAT Mount for turkey hunting, or any king of ground blind.

It holds very securely. Even my Bergara HMR (which is a petty heave gun), I can lock it in and it will stay indefinitely.

These are excellent points, and highlights the shortcomings of the Death Grip. While I do use it sometimes for stalking, especially if someone else is shooting and I can set it up for them. If I'm stalking by myself, I always take a pair of lightweight stalking sticks. Less stable, but FAR easier, lighter, and quieter.
The death Grip shines in its versatility, and as a stationary anchor. But they are HEAVY- no doubt.

Deathgrip might get too clunky for spot and stalk but my kids use it from the blind and it's been perfect for that until their strength and stability grows.

I highly recommend one with the infinity head. Its super flexible with how you can position it.

I also like the carbon fiber legs. Of course they're lighter but less likely to get bent or dinged and then have issues telescoping compared aluminum. But it's more $.

You can buy a ball swivel kit for it or piece one together yourself. Pretty easy to do and improves the functionality alot. I do wish it just came with one from the factory though.

Maybe not the most efficient conversion but I got this for my bog and now it's pretty awesome.

As was said above though, if you plan to walk around with it, getting the carbon one would be the way to go.

I have the DeathGrip aluminum version that I carry around when hunting with my 11 year old. I wish it were lighter as we typically walk 2-3 miles. If I had it to do over, I would go with the carbon fiber legs. It's no problem to get it low enough for him (he's 5'0") or high enough for me. I'm going to buy the ball mount linked above as the oe gun mount sucks for fine adjustments.

I've had trouble with some of the twist lock legs .. I much prefer the other locking style.

I really like the Deathgrip Infinite. It's more expensive, but has better options. The legs are twist lock instead of the locking levers, it has a ball and socket head with the Arca mount. You can remove the gun clamp and replace it with any Arca mount accessory. It comes with an optics/camera mount so you can mount a spotting scope or camera to it easily. The ball and socket mount gives you way more freedom of movement instead of just X-Y axis movements. A single tension knob controls your movement.

I went a different brand. I didn't like how you couldn't use the bog tripod for anything other than shooting, without expensive and not simple modifications. I don't have plans to use a tripod for a camera, but maybe my kids will need one in the future. The bog doesn't have the 1/4" screw that everything mounts to. I went with this:
https://a.co/d/7Hdmahg
I tried it out this weekend and it worked great. Half the price, increased functionality. Yeah, maybe it breaks before the bog, but maybe not. This thing felt sturdy. If I were a big shooting enthusiast, I would go with the bog for sure; but for a couple times a year, for a couple years until the kids get bigger, I am happy with the one I got so far.

As someone who uses tripods almost every weekend thermal hunting....I stay far far away from the vice style mount.

Arca swiss plate & a ball head is by far the way to go. Now bolt guys in a box blind im sure are fine but out in the fields where we are moving with these things, its just so much better to use the araca mounts.

I do most of my hunting walking and stalking out of state and having the quick trigger adjustment on this is the best.

I have used my DeathGrip for crossbow. It works well for that.

We have been using this in the mountains for 4 years. Its light enough and rugged enough to carry for miles and not cost prohibitive.

I have a mount for 10x binos allowing us to glass 3000 yds, and my teenage daughter just puts a light weight rifle bag on top to shoot from. Its worked on 2 elk so far.

No issues so far even in the snow and minus 10 last week. I am basically her tripod and bean bag caddy while she never lets go of her 11# rifle.

Actually have this myself. But buying this for my boys (7 and 10) who aren't as proficient as myself.

Plus, in a blind, having the tripod hold the rifle close to "at ready" is better than it leaning up in a corner while a kid sleeps.

Same. I have the aluminum BOG and a knock off fat boy carbon ball head I got for $200.

I hate the weight of the bog, it doesn't hold as stable as the carbon, and I also can't get my rifle straight… seems like it wants to lean to 1 side or the other.

Only time I use my bog is with bolt guns that don't have ability to add arca. Sits in my garage most of the time
