I ordered a ton of stuff from Rogers - mostly for duck hunting. All of my shotgun shells and some of my deer ammo comes from them. Great company!

I'm thinking something like a franchi affinity

But the 2 brands shoulder Completely Different. The Bs do not fit for me, even after changing shims. Same for my son. Imo, it's about height/ neck to shoulder etc.
Trip, we have the affinity and sbe3 he can try out at the ranch if you'd like- Huffman area. Iirc y'all are around lake Houston.

Beretta A300 over the franchi. A400 is better.

prefer to stick with inertia vs gas operated

They are fun.

Years ago my MIL and I killed eleventy thousand rats with one of those and an H&R 9 shot. We would make a day of it in these chicken houses they used to have. The only thing that ever stopped us was running out of rat shot. It wasn't a good long term solution to the rat problem but it was a ton of fun.

While I have tried some binos under $150, there isn't a 10x42 (the configuration that most deer hunters want) that I would recommend. However, I will pull a classic OB move and recommend you spend a bit more. Today on Amazon you can get a 10x42 1st gen. Athlon Optics Midas UHD for $180.99. These have been around for a number of years now, so the exterior design is a bit dated. But if you can get past that, and can spend a bit more, then it would be a solid choice.

And while I don't like to recommend something I haven't tried myself, I have another suggestion if you just gotta stay below $150. Vortex has a fairly new model called the Triumph HD 10x42. Reviews for this ~$90 bino seem to be very complimentary. Buy it today, get it tomorrow, send it back if you don't like it. The amazing thing about this model (besides Vortex's excellent customer service) is that it also comes with a harness. You might find these at Academy too, if you happen to live near one.

I have a pair of the binoculars. Best $99 binoculars I have ever used. We bought them last month to leave in the trailer but have used them extensively. Would absolutely buy the scope on said budget.
