Our ~4 year old, 65lb, pit mix is not drool/slobber prone. In retrospect, she started drooling abnormally about 3 hours ago. Eyes are somewhat dilated. She is behaving normally or right next to it.

We set up Christmas decorations today, but nobody saw her eat anything she shouldn't have.

Should we be concerned at the heavy drooling? Any action we could take short of an emergency visit on a Sunday?

Any dry heaving or bloated looking abdomen? If so, could be a twisted stomach, and immediate vet care is needed. I lost my dog to this last month. She was 5. The vet said these things need to be corrected within an hour or two for any chance at success.

Nothing like that. She's just leaving a wet spot everywhere she stops for any length of time.

Eating and drinking? No puke?

If eating and drinking and no unproductive puking, check the top of her mouth for a stick/bone trapped in there. Have any toads around?

I washed her water bowl and put down some fresh water 20 minutes ago. She just came by and drank a healthy amount. Haven't fed her yet this evening. ETA: no puking.

The wife checked her mouth earlier, but I'll do it again in a minute.

Not many toads here, and haven't seen one in a while. But I guess that's a possibility.

I've had this happen a few times with my labs. First time it happened I took her to an emergency vet on Christmas Eve. The next couple of times, I gave them Benadryl. Each time it was around Christmas. I'm guessing they ate something Christmas (food or decoration) related.

double check for a sharp object lodged in teeth or gums, especially around the back teeth.

This is why my dog drools (in the past). For example chewing on something metal like a pin someone dropped. Esp. if the dog is opening and shutting its mouth over and over.

Or a stick or something wedged sideways between their upper or lower sets of teeth.

I think she got ahold of a toad in the yard. I inspected her mouth pretty thoroughly and didn't find anything. She cleared up after a few hours.

Thanks for the input y'all.
