Leaving to go to Az Tuesday. Supposed to share a room at lodge w my cousin. Issue is he snores like a chainsaw, and I got very little sleep last yr. Thinking about taking a tent to sleep in.

My question is, how uncomfortable would I be in a cheap academy tent? I have a 25 sleeping bag. Was planning on getting the tent and a pad and sleeping with socks, sweat pants, and a hoodie in the bag.

Lows will be in mid to low 30's.

How many nights we taking here?

I like giving a 15-20 degree buffer between expected low and bag rating. A sleeping bag liner can help provide more r value and get you there too.

Get ear plugs. Can't be that bad

Get a 5 dollar fleece zip up liner for your sleeping bag. I had to sleep in my underwear in 26 degree temps it got so damn hot.

You can always put a less air permeable layer over the bag like a small tarp and you'll be toasty warm. Tents keep out bugs, wind, and rain. Other than that they have basically zero value regarding warmth. I've never had a problem sleeping well in a tent if my bedding was set up properly, even in the low 20's.

I wouldn't even worry about a tent. Just take a bag and a good pad or a cot. Go sleep next to your cousin if it rains.

just as Mouth said, get your bedding right. will make a world of difference. you're not hiking with it so weight isn't an issue.

I wear my Apple Noise Cancellation Air Pods to bed. They cancel out my wife's snoring. Play some wind sounds on Spotify to help you sleep.

Where are you located, tandy? Unless you just want to buy a tent, I have a 2-person you can borrow.

Earplugs and a couple shots of bourbon should do the trick.

I slept in the car last year. Tried sleeping with AirPods playing a fake fan and could hear it. It's terrible

FWIW I slept in the backseat of the car last year and was fine. Temps last yr were low 20's I believe. I do imagine the vehicle would insulate better than a tent.

Also I'm going to try to sleep inside, I just want a backup. Last year was ****ing miserable and I averaged <3 hrs of sleep a night except for when I slept in the car last year

Tell your cousin to get his sleep apnea fixed before he dies.

Slam a couple of the THC drinks 30 minutes before bed and sleep great until they wear off.

Technically both of us.

Genuinely not sure how him and his wife sleep in same bed

Also- I'm not asking if I should have to sleep somewhere else or if it's "fair"… I know the answer. I'm not a child and don't mind sleeping outside.

Just trying to make sure I am warm enough.

Filling a water bottle with hot water(not boiling) and putting it in your sleeping bag near your feet is another good trick.

25 degree bag in low 30's, you might be a little cool. Toss an extra blanket in (sleeping bag liners are overrated) and a full size pillow from home. Don't underestimate the value of a warm pad. A lot of blowup air mattresses have minimal insulation and you'll be cool if not cold in the low 30's.

I do this all the time traveling, because I'm cheap. Pillow from home, backpacking air mattress with a 8 R value on top of a closed cell foam pad, sleeping bag, and a shot of bourbon. Sleep better than in some random bed.

if you want to sleep well, you need a 0 degree bag. I'm warm blooded but have always needed a bag rated lower than what the temp is. And if you aren't backpacking bring a heavy blanket to compensate.

Assuming the lodge has electricity, can you run an extension cord to the tent and run a small portable space heater?

You'll be fine in a cheap tent. I've slept in sub 30s with a super cheap tent. It's no big deal. Your sleeping bag and the clothes you sleep in are more important than the tent.

A 25 means it will keep you alive down to 25. Not that it will keep you comfortable.

Put a piece of cheap poly under the tent to block moisture and use a pad under sleeping bag and you will be fine. if not put second piece of tarp, poly, etc over tent.

So pair the snorers up with each other. I'm sure there's at least one more.
