From my experience in radio.. they ask you to do more and more and refuse to pay you more. Eventually it takes a toll on you.AustinCountyAg said:
So just heard on 790 today was Brian la Lima last day. Co host with Sean in the mornings. Anyone know if he quit? Fired?
Thats the same story I heard from a guy i know through work whose son had a radio job. Its a grind with not that great pay and you basically have to be the one lucky one to survive all the other recent college comms grads fighting for the top job just to get a chance to hosting your own show. You're expected to do appearances outside of your show hours so now youre looking at multiple 12+ hour days. Then when you do get the show your workload doubles but your pay definitely doesn't. You basically have to be syndicated in multiple markets to come close to cracking six figs. All of this was true before any yahoo with a webcam and mic could become their own podcast host. Then again, you could be lucky enough to become the next Stephen A Smith or Cowherd, but your odds are pretty much slim to none.texasaggie2015 said:From my experience in radio.. they ask you to do more and more and refuse to pay you more. I grinded it out for about 7 years before I couldn't take it anymore. Wasn't fun anymore. It's just an absolutely brutal industry.

LZ and Granato
That's all that's left that is any good.
Feel like Gallant had really evolved into a good host.

ESPN 97.5 cancelled Paul Gallant's afternoon show recently. They replaced him with a syndicated Rich Eisen show.
The revenue pie for Sports Radio must be shrinking pretty rapidly with all of the options out there. It's a shame.

On the flip side, local sports radio talks Texans almost not stop because thats what the listeners were calling in about even during the off-season. When your job is to give the people wha tthey want, it will always land on the lowest common denominator and in the world of sports media in the US, that is the NFL

Paul is a really good friend of mine, and its tough watching the rug get pulled on him again. It is an incredibly brutal market out there. He's been working on a podcast and livestreams/watch parties in the meantime. Not sure what his future gig will be.
