Does anyone know of a deal finalized last month for a new car plant in McAllen?

There was some buzz on a local radio station but nothing that I have seen that is official.

Officials have said they are in talks, but nothing has been officially signed.

Any details? Car assembly or auto parts? Any new word since the last post? I have not seen anything about in the Business Journal.

I heard assembly and that they were breaking ground first week in september. Can anyone confirm or deny.

Guys, I can promise you, this is not happening. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

The city leaders that decided to make this "announcement" are naive and foolish. The current city administration is beyond clueless and this is one of many pie in the sky/failed dream scenarios.

The idea of a car assembly plant was flirted with in the past a few years back with KIA. Back then they did the same announcement and press conferences..but no details could ever be produced. Same administration then as today.. go figure.

Are you saying that they did make some sort of anouncement though?

Anyone can make an "announcement" but read it. They met with high level officials, but ambiguous on details...and took NO questions.

Continue reading and you'll see one of many reasons KIA didn't show up down here. They say that media attention killed that deal. If they really learned there lesson about not leaking info..why did they call a press conference and do the same thing again? The truth is they may have had talks with whomever, but they were NEVER going to do that here. Blaming the media is a lame attempt to cover the fact that they couldn't keep a secret and decided to blab what they knew too soon..then got burned.

I hope the plant comes....MB's children need jobs.
