I don't know if any of you heard the news story after Hurricane Dolly that a 17 year old kid had been thrown from a 7 story window and killed at South Padre Island. What happened was the window broke, and the hurricane force winds sucked him out, while everyone else in the room had to run into the closet to not suffer the same fate. Well, just this morning, I got an email forwarded to me by my aunt. She got an email about the situation from a close relative of the victim, who is from Monterrey. It turns out that the parents of the kid were in Monterrey, and managed to get a hold of the SPI fire department, who had picked him up and taken him to the nearest hospital in Harlingen. (Everyone else on the island had no way to communicate) They were informed that the boy was alive and other than a broken hip, rib, and elbow, the kid was alive and stable.
Everyone on the island was sure he was dead.
Two days before the accident, my cousin (son of the aunt who forwarded me the email) was actually having dinner with him and his little brother. What a small world.
How does someone survive a 7 story fall? Truly was a miracle.
