My wife and I just spent a long weekend at La Posada in Laredo. The place looks really nice after the huge renovation but is still not as busy as it used to be (not necessarily a bad thing for the traveler). We went over to Nuevo Laredo twice, once for dinner at El Rincon del Viejo and then the next day to walk around. Our two favorite restaurants, El Dorado (the old Cadillac) and Mexico Tipico are closed as are many of the shops in the Mercado. My favorite taco cart, Taqueria Lissy, on the backside of the Mercado was still open and make the BEST chicken gorditas. The narco-traficante violence has mostly moved to Juarez. We never felt threatened but there were damn few gringos over there so we got much more interest from the carriage operators and street vendors. It really is sad what has happened to that town in the last three years.

La Posada, I'll be back there in a couple of weeks. It would be a great resort in a better location.....
