South Texas Catholics morals and values are more in line with that of the conservative republican party. The problem with south texas is that too many stupid people let Jose down at the coffee shop educate them about the true issues. 95% of them still think Obama is muslim, yet still think that he's ok to vote for. Unbelievable. Time and time again 'la politica' down there rides the Democrats, because that's the way its always been done, however they are more republican in their beliefs than a republican out of east texas. BTW, the one's seeking the handouts and welfare, don't vote.

Thoughts?

I agree also. This area down here was VERY pro Hilary Clinton during the primaries. Our area has always voted democrat. There are rarely any contested races in the general election..and if they are, the dems win by HUGE margins.

I'm a registered Republican, I've been election judge for my precinct, as well as being a state and national delagate for my party. That being said, I have no problems supporting and voting for our local reps or judges and what not. Most of them do good work in our area for everyone, not just their specific party affiliation.

Yeah sure, seems like you enjoy the state our country is in right now.

"Bush for four more years! He's from Texas whoo! Let's vote for him!" Wonder what all those people are thinking now.

Those are actual quotes I heard from people back in '00 and '04

Here are a few quotes from people in the Bronx, NY when asked about Obama...

So, what do think about Senator Obama?
"He's great! I can't wait for him to be President."
You like that he has promised to lower taxes of 95% of Americans?
"Yeah, that's great!"
(That's not possible! 30% of Americans don't pay any taxes...dumbassss)
You think Sarah Palin will be a good Vice President?
"Yeah, she's just what we need."

THESE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE A FRIGGIN' CLUE!!!!

there ought to be some sort of test administered before you have to vote that verifies that you are mentally competent enough to do so...

South Texas Democratic values are what the National Democratic Party used to represent.

I've always been a Democrat but I'm starting to feel like my party is leaving me behind.

Regardless of their recent success the Democratic party should return to some good family values (Catholic Values) and by those same valus acknowledge that we owe a duty to help our fellow American when they are down on their luck.

South Texas Democrats will always have my vote. So long as they remain atleast somewhat socially conservative, and help those that need it.

Yellow Dog D's are worse than any R. I've ever met.

Please explain what you mean by wanting the Democrats to 'return to some good family values (Catholic Values)'.

The Democrats as far as I know have never had Catholic Values. The official Catholic stance on abortion (which whether or not you agree is the issue that divides Democrats and Republicans) is that it is wrong (in a nutshell). Democrat judges are also paving the way for gay marriage which happens to be another issue that goes against Catholic Values. Can you imagine a gay wedding at a Catholic church? Probably not.

Also, what is a socially conservative Democrat? You said "we owe a duty to help our fellow American when they are down on their luck". I interpreted what you said as bigger government, more social programs for those "down on their luck", more spending on welfare, free health care for all, etc. So maybe you meant 'so long as they remain socially liberal'? Either way I'd like to know what you meant.

I'm not old enough to know first hand. However when I think of the Democratic party of old I'm thinking JFK, LBJ, and John Connally. They were a more conservative bunch that also realized the need to help out the middle class.

When I say "social" I'm talking about abortion, gay rights, affirmative action, etc...

When I say "economic" I'm talking about big government and social programs. I guess I'm thinking of social programs from a dollars and cents point of view.

Thanks for pointing out the difference, thats just the way I organize my thoughts.

So in summation when I talk about my ideal political party I'd take the Republican "social" ideals and combine that with the Democrats "economic" stance.

Hope that clarification works for ya.

It sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too, politically speaking. That just isn't possible. Understand that if you identify yourself with a political party you accept the core values of that party. In other words you can't say "I am a democrat, however, I am not pro-choice and I don't think homosexuals should be given the right to marry." The same way someone who identifies themself as a Republican can't say "I am a Republican, however, I am pro-choice and I think homosexuals should be given the right to marry." When you vote for a political party you vote for that partys core values like it or not. To think otherwise is plain ignorant. Just keep that in mind.
