Looks like our UTPA president may be in hot water for her disertation from U Mass. The paper is quoting several sources as saying that it is ok because the rules weren't the same back then, or that educational leadership dissertations are held to a lower standard. I wonder if this is just going to be swept under the rug?

My wife got her masters degree from UTPA. When this woman got up to speak at her graduation, it was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud. Talk about trying WAY too hard to impress.

I don't know, as stupid as it sounds, this accusation seems like something this lady was capable of doing.

It doesn't really matter.
She got her job because she is an hispanic woman...not because she is an educated person.
If they punish her in any way, it will tell the world that they actually expected something of her and then they will have to be more selective in later hirings.
That could possibly mean hiring...white women or, Heaven forbid, men.

heh I'm working on a 2nd degree right now at UTPA - for the most part the only "worthy" departments at UTPA are their physics and engineering departments... the rest of them are a joke.

btw - I'm in the engineering dept.

After one report by the TV stations/Monitor the allegations have vanished. I thought it was interesting that the original allegations were made by a fairly large group of professors on campus.

Maybe all is not well in Camelot.

My sister graduated from utpa in the summer.

The UTPA president tried so hard to impress.

She spent a good chunk of her 'speech' listing competitions where UTPA beat A&M and Texas. Which leads me to believe they prepare their students for silly competitions.

On a side note, the commencement speaker was abysmal. Her speech was the most juvenile thing I've ever heard an adult give. Let's just say it spent a good majority talking about the Wizard of Oz. Seriously.

Some of my family and sisters friends literally laughed out loud during some parts of the graduation because they couldn't contain themselves.

Full page add from the Pan Am Foundation with whole hearted support for the President. Apparently, there are some nasty dissidents at the university that are out to get the president. All of the speculation should be stopped so that the university can move forward. UMass says they don't comment on unsigned accusations, so that should end this "specious" story.

I wonder what the "facts" are?

Spring Branch Ag beat me to the punch. It appears that Bambi has resigned for health reasons. In a related story the UT system has stated that it was going to end their investigation since she was resigning.

There hasn't been much coverage on other issues, the press has basically given her a pass. Apparently she used university resources, financial and manpower to keep up her yard and do other things. I am not sure it reached the level of the past Dallas ISD superintendent who used school district money to buy considerable furniture for her house. On the other hand, she was skewered by the press in the state.
