I decided to post it here on the South Texas board. I went to high school in the valley so it was the beginning of my journey though A&M, grad school and now the real world. I'll be back in the valley for vacation over x-mas and haven't been there since May so i'm excited to see what new stuff is around. Hope you guys on this board are doing good.

It is nice to be coming back to the real world. The old valley is changing lots of traffic, big chain department stores, they are even talking about putting a loop around Hidalgo County. Be sure to enjoy some good Mexican food, my son tells me that there is none in Dallas! :-)

haha one of my friends said she was down during x-mas time and she said they are trying to turn downtown McAllen into something similar to 6th street in Austin. Is this true?

the valley (especially the McAllen area) is growing FAST. I think you will be surprised at how the valley is actually starting to become sort-of respectable.

I've always had a good time in the Valley. I just wished that more of my old high school friends still returned. Its hard to go out and have a good time when you dont know many people there but i've always enjoyed the valley.

True on the Downtown 17th Street. The Patio is a great restaurant with a great atmosphere. There are a few bars that look really nice, but I have not been to any of them.

Yea I believed they blocked off the streets for pedestrians at night downtown. Don't know if they're doing that every weekend or what.

And I don't think things have changed THAT much since May.
