My mother lived there till she died. I hated it. I live in Edinburg and it was very inconventient to get to for a visit. My other siblings and my mother felt it was the only option because of the care at the med center they have.

The problem with any of these facilities is that they make lots of friends when they get there and then their friends start dying off and they get depressed. I suppose that it is the nature of the beast. They seem to do better if they can keep their car so they can leave for visits on their own if they want to.

There are some small houses they can live in instead of the little apartments. I don't know much about that part of it.

My parents have lived in one of the cottages in John Knox for the last 6 years. They have advantages over just perpetual nursing care including apartment and RV space rental for visiting relatives, good meal plans, and social activities.

My mother just recently passed and I have nothing but good things to say about the round the clock care she recieved there her last few days. Their personel were great.

Over all I would recommend it and will comsider it when I get a "little" older.

I know you don't know me on this board but I am a long time lurker from Mission.

Thanks guys. My mom is from Pharr where I grew up. I have checked it out and it seems like a good place for that time of life but we will probably move her closer to my sister in Corpus.

I will regret when she leaves and my Valley home is gone.
