I'm going to be working in Harlingen for a few months over the summer, need to find a place to stay.

Anybody have any apartment suggestions?

I'm gonna be working near Lake Harlingen somewhere around 1st street.

hmm, that's actually really near my house. i would go for one of the gated apartments near the airport. there are some nice ones on haine road and a couple of good ones on loop 499. lake harlingen is in an interesting area. you have have some of the nicest areas of harlingen right next to some of the nastiest. i would primarily look in areas east of lake harlingen. the only places worth staying in west of lake harlingen are in or next to the country club.

Yea I'm actually looking at a couple of places around treasure hills.

Someone suggested the palm valley area.

Any big differences between the two areas?

treasure hills is in decay while palm valley is growing. treasure hills is still nice, but palm valley took treasure hills' spot as where the money lives in harlingen. treasure hills is near quite a bit of restaurants, the hospital, and the san benito walmart & heb. palm valley is near the mall, a walmart & heb, and cinemark. both are right next to golf courses if you like to golf. palm valley is a little more spread out and will have less traffic. both areas are near a highway.

i love this. i totally agree with walter on what's close to what, but let's be real. it's harlingen. it takes 15 minutes to get from one side of town to the other

If you can get an apartment at "Oak Terrace" apartments in Harlingen, I would definitely recommend it. I had a 6 month lease there awhile back and it ran a little over 500 dollars.

The landlords are what made that place so awesome - one of the best apartments I have ever lived at.

Although if you see an apartment owned by the "Lynd" company - stay FAR FAR away. I'm still dealing with those conniving *******s on an apartment that I moved out from almost a year ago.
