I love Palmetto's chips and salsa they give you before your meal - other than that its nothing special imo.

I am not too sure, I haven't eaten there in about 2 years or so, not because I didn't want to, but I just haven't been around. The son of the original owner died a few years ago and he was kind of the driving force. I had heard, all hearsay, that it had dropped off some but I couldn't attest to that. The people working there had been working there for like 30 years so it might be the same. I always thought their version of TexMex was really good. Loved their salsa's and tacos.

Just a note. I fried some of the shrimp I got from Cuevos last night. OUT OF THIS WORLD. They were so big you had to cut them with a knife to eat them. Here is my recpe I got from my chef mentor from New Orleans. It is refered to as "dusting"

Peel and butterfly the shrimp, remove the tail also. Pound lightly to spread out the shrimp. Maybe just once, you don't want to break it.

Heat conola oil in a deep fryer. 350 - 375

Use egg and milk mixture and flour. I season both pretty heavely with a good spice blend. (I use Geofery Micheals Spicet).

Dip into the egg then the flour and dust off, then into the fryer for about a minute. There is just a really light coating on the shrimp.

Make your own cocktail sauce and lime wedges.

Absolutely the best you have ever had.

Ive been going to the Palmetto Inn since I was a very young child, now I take my teens every summer when we visit family.

It is still open, and so very good! We will be back again in June!

Blackbeards is a good place to eat as well, but so is the oyster bar in harlingen!!

The Sheraton should be open by now and it is completely renovated. It is actually like new. Highly reccomend to stay there now.

Wanna Wanna Beach Club is the best hangout on the beach. 2 thumbs up.

Dirty Als is my favorite place to eat there. Everything else is pretty much a tourist trap, especially Blackbeards.

just came back from SPI. dirty al's was money. the mexican style shrimp coctail at blackbeard's is actually very good.

and yeah, wanna wanna rules as far as setting and hanging out.

Was home for the Memorial day weekend. Tried the new Gabriellas where the old Pantry/Grill Room was. Very, very good as usual. Duane and Co. do churn out some very good food. It is a little higher price than when it was in PI, but still very reasonable. Nice atmosphere.

Wanna Wanna's and Boomerang's (Surf Motel) are my two favorite beach hangouts.

The Coral Reef is my favorite nightspot for karaoke and Pelican West is my favorite live band hangout.

We always eat at Scampi's if we go out to eat at night. Crab Nachos FTW.
