Program Ford Key

We got a new to us '22 Expy and it only had one key. Same thing happened to us when we bought the '15 Expy, but I was able to program a new one in Forscan. This option doesn't seem to be available for the newer years through Forscan.

I have the spare key so I am only needing it to be programmed as a second key. Dealership wants $350. Locksmith who guarantees they will actually program it as a second key and not copy the first key wants $285.

Seems very steep for what I remember being about a 15 min procedure.

Any insight from 1Ags or anyone else in the industry on a cheaper way to get this done? Willing to try it myself if anyone in the hacking community knows of a way to do it. Like I said, I have done this before with Forscan on two other vehicles with only 1 key so I am capable with the right tools.

Try Ace Hardware if you have one near you. They do the key fob replacement and programming.

How do they program it if not through Forscan?

I'm in the same boat on a 2015 F250. Ace was $260 for one key. There is a locksmith near me that will do two keys for $150 if I provide the keys. I also saw a video for Tom's Keys. $100 to buy a key and programmer. Get the key cut and then the programmer does the rest. Not sure if it will work for 2022

They have FDS (I think is the name) that is the actual ford software. Forscan is a Russian hack software.

FDRS

Forscan can't to nearly as much as FDRS.

You can get the license to go advanced and there's one more pro level they don't advertise.

I use it a lot but also have the mongoose cable for actual Ford stuff.

OP, I have a locksmith guy that is good and fast in the houston area.

This is a pet peeve of mine - dealerships selling without 2 keys. I've asked several about it and they all say the customer came in and didn't intend to trade that day and didn't bring the 2nd key.

If you have to, add the 2nd key price to the vehicle price, but provide 2 keys. I'm sure it costs the dealership about half of what they quote you for them to make a key.

I now always make that a condition of purchase - 2 keys!

Just eliminate the keys/fobs entirely. Tesla uses the phone app as the key. Car unlocks when you walk up and locks when you walk away. My wedding ring is programmed as a key card that I can use to unlock and drive the car just like the key card that came from the factory. Keys and fobs are such a wasted expense.

Great idea in the summer when your phone overheats and won't let you into your car to cool off

Awesome tech and idea but shouldn't be primary means of entry without a physical backup

Like I said my wedding ring is also a key and that's with me 24/7. They come with two cards so we both keep them in our wallets. The real point is that I don't have a bulky fob in my pocket. Card in my wallet and my ring is always in my finger.

I'm late to the party, but this may or may not help.

I only had one key for my 2016 F150 and the locksmiths and all those guys were charging what you're seeing to make newbies.

I ended up buying this https://store.carkeysexpress.com/keys-and-remotes/item/1014059-universal-ez-installer for my car and then I bought 2 blank fobs with transmitters from https://www.locksmithkeyless.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqJltJR9RiXSDe6EtZCDL-uoAIDihAaGMdH77gb6OhEfbAxaXzz

I took the blanks plus my original key to a ford dealer and they cut the keys for free (Parts dept is the secret here).

Then I used the programmer tool to make the new keys. I was out less than $100 for 2 new keys (3 total now)

Well, that was useless, says it's not compatible with your model. Sorry. Maybe it helps someone though.

Thanks for the input.

Update on my end, I took the new Amazon key to the dealership I purchased from when I took it back for a complimentary detail and they programmed the new key for free. Now that I have two I can add them on my own with no software.

Big B's lock and key 713-439-7425.

He will let you bring your own key to program. He just only works Sugarland/Mo city area.

I just drive down and meet him.

Super reasonable. Tell him I sent you.
