Out of necessity, I swapped out my alternator in an AutoZone parking lot with their basic Duralast. In hindsight, I'm reading a lot of poor reports on these units (not really a surprise). Any recommendations on other options for another aftermarket option? Budget isn't really an issue, just want to be more confident in the reliability of my alternator.

I have a Leece-Neville 230 amp on mine with a heavy gauge battery interconnect on my KD 6.0. I think the alt was under $500 when I got it but that was several years ago.

You can have the OEM rebuilt, which is the route I'd go second if you still have it. The right shop will build it better than stock.

I got the Leece Neville because I was towing my travel trailer and I wanted it to be able to charge everything quickly.

I've put ~40k miles on a new, not reman, Remy 92570 since 2018 with no issues.

Today, I'd likely buy a new Motorcraft or Bosch from O'Reilly. It's too hard getting warranty replacements for most parts like that purchased online.

I bought whatever they had in the back of O'Reilley's. Looks like stock but reman in old Mexico. It was cheaper than a single battery and has a lifetime warranty.

Was going to suggest DC Power…but is $509 now, dang. If can find a rebuilder in area, worth it IMO. Mine retired.

TMI -IIf on fence, I'd spend the $…DC Power swapped one that was out of warranty at no charge instead of fixing it after it went down 5yrs later (they had every right to make me buy a new one as an electrical issue caused it).

Thanks everyone, went down quite a rabbit hole and scoped out everything recommended here. Ended up going with this one. Several good reviews on different online forums.

170 amps is getting close to max without having to upgrade wiring.

Budget not really an issue but certainly a cost vs need analysis. Would probably double costs to go any higher (230amp +) with upgraded wiring, something I don't ever foresee needing (no way I ever regret this... right...?).

After an O'Reilly's reman starter went out after a couple of months on my old 6.7 F250, leaving me stranded in Houston, I feel better spending up a little on some of the more essential parts.

I went with an upgrade alternator. I did upgrade all the wiring and added 400amp fuses too. I added a new stereo system with subwoofer, reverse camera, reverse lights, and new fog lights.

Seriously considered a mechman when looking at some of the higher output alternators.
