Projected CFP Top 25 (Selection Day Dec. 7, 2025)

Note: I am not endorsing this but did instruct the model to account for CFP committee member comments and implied policies.

[ol]
  • Indiana The lone unbeaten left and Big Ten champ after a 13-10 win over Ohio State should be the committee's easiest No. 1 call.
  • Ohio State A narrow title-game loss to the new No. 1 is still a rsum strong enough to hold a top-two slot and a bye.
  • Georgia The SEC champ's emphatic 28-7 win over Alabama should cement a top-three ranking.
  • Texas Tech Dominating BYU 34-7 to win the Big 12 should keep the Red Raiders safely in the bye range.
  • Oregon Idle but steady, with a one-loss profile that still stacks up cleanly against the at-large pack.
  • Ole Miss The Rebels' position is helped by their top-end wins and the chaos below them.
  • Texas A&M Still a high-end one-loss team in the committee's eyes, even without a title-game boost.
  • Oklahoma A stable host-range team unless the committee rewrites the middle of the SEC/Big 12 stack.
  • Notre Dame The Irish benefit from BYU's loss and Alabama's third defeat, and should remain solidly in.
  • Alabama The committee likely drops the Tide but may still keep them just inside the field based on overall rsum despite the 28-7 loss to Georgia.
  • Tulane Winning the American over North Texas 34-21 should secure the top Group of Five position.
  • James Madison The Sun Belt champ's 31-14 win over Troy gives the committee a clean way to award the fifth automatic champion slot over a five-loss ACC champ.

We need a new rule. If somebody is posting AI responses, the post should also include which AI engine they're asking, and a copy/paste of the prompt that generated the response.

Not a shot at OP or even commentary on OP, just an annoyance that needed to be brought up.

I think the post nails it, I hope the committee agrees, because I do not want the Ags to play ND again

The committee is following this board closely. They will choose the final rankings based on whichever of the 50 posts about projected final rankings has the most blue stars.

I really hope the committee chooses to avoid the OM-Tulane rematch and bumps us ahead of Ole Miss. Unlikely, but there's a chance.

I did not think of that rematch. Would be great for the Ags to benefit and switch spots with Ole Miss.

Just as likely that they bump JMU in front of Tulane - aetting up Tulane vs Oregon.

I don't think they'll leave the ACC out. So, either Alabama or Notre Dame will draw the short straw.

If bama wanted to be in the playoff, they shouldn't have got blown out by UGA, or lost to a very bad FSU.

If BYU won in the Big 12 CG, they'd be in, but as it was, they lost and are out. If VA won the ACC VG they'd be in, but as it was, they lost and are out. JMU and Tulane won their CGs and are in, otherwise if they lost they'd be out. Why is Alabama an exception?

They won't punish bama for the sec champ game loss. Also, college football is a business and bama brings in more eyeballs and money than anyone. I don't think they should be in with 3 losses and a bad performance in the sec champ game but I think they are in.
    HikesNH

So Alabama is an exception because they will have higher TV ratings for their games? Sounds like corruption, but I would not be surprised.

The reason Bama stays in is because the B10 & SEC run this show and neither want to see their conference championship games devalued.

You already hear fans from teams talking about how the championship games are just a chance for injury now and if your team is already in, they're not as valuable as they used to be.

If you boot Bama, the SEC is going to throw a MASSIVE fit. Especially since you'd be tossing them to pull in an ACC team (ACC has no real pull anymore).

So really, I think Bama stays because the SEC wants them to stay and the SEC/B10 run this. Both realize they'll have tons of teams on the fringe every year and neither wants the possibility of losing one of those teams due to their own conference championship game.

    Not a fair comparison

BYU was OUT to start Saturday (top 10 are "in"). They needed a win to get IN.
VA was OUT to start Saturday. They needed a win to get IN (and would get an autobid at that point - not even an at large).

Bama was IN to start Saturday, so you'd be punishing them for losing a game that you didn't ask any of 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 to play in.

Basically, BYU and Virginia maintained the status quo by NOT taking their opportunity to get in.
Bama will likely be afforded the same - maintain the status quo - but they were already in.

    Maybe this

But more that they are also Not going to let Bama be the 1st team out two years in a row,

Duke winning the ACC also makes it easy to justify leaving Miami out. They should have Won such a crap conference if they were deserving to be in the playoff.

    The teams are set.

All that's left is juggling the rankings to make the best match ups.

Ags in Cotton Bowl, yes please!

I'm okay with this. Considering how poorly the Tide has played recently and the fact that it will be at Kyle Field, we should ("should" being the operative term here) handle them easily.

It was just that Bama lost. It is the way they lost. They looked like garbage. Plus leaving out at least one representative of a major conference like the AcC while letting in Tulane and James Madison is unthinkable. Miami most definitely is in, and Bama is out.

    I think it will be:

    1. Indiana - Rose
    2. Georgia - Orange
    3. tOSU - Sugar
    4. Tech - Cotton

If Oregon gets JMU in the 1st Rd and Indiana and tOSU get byes, that will be the committee doing everything possible to advantage the B1G.

While that may be true, it will be the loss in the CC game that removes them. They were in at #10, they played and lost, then they're out. That's how it will be viewed and debated if it occurs.

    No bama is in

That's the easy out and creates the least controversy. Don't give the perception they were punished for playing an extra game and then replaced by a team that was idle, risking nothing.

True, but I don't think the committee will see it that way. Its made of ADs and stuff. CCGs make schools money. If you devalue them creating a big downside to losing the game (which itself is a reward for having a great season), schools won't want to play it. ADs want that game.
