All depends on how much the Mets are throwing in and what we do with that money.

If we gave prospects to avoid paying his contract and use that savings to resign Tucker or Framber so be it but if they both end up walking this could backfire.

Hopefully Mets cover a ton of contract so we can open books up for Tucker but Crane refuses to go over 5 years and it's not gonna work out unless he does

Extending Tucker has to be the long term plan with the idea of Yordan, Chas and Tucker locking down the outfield for years and years to come

Speculating that we are clearly all in this year then Dana trades away a vet for prospects in the offseason to reload. It's not sustainable to keep trading off prospects.

So if the Mets aren't covering a massive part of this contract that means Crane effectively gave the Mets 2 top players for renting JV for 4 months. He could have just given JV the contract last winter and kept the players. That's a huge error.

I am 100% excited about getting JV back. He's exceeded my expectations this season with his recent run of good starts. However, he is still declining and I would expect him to further decline over the next 2 years. Giving up Gilbert & Clifford for him feels like way too much even if the Mets cover the majority of the remaining money. I **** on Arlington for overpaying for an aging arm and I think this is similarly bad. JV >>> Max though. I hope JV proves me wrong.

No doubt but it's a huge gamble. I don't know the exact odds but even a great team has at most a 25% chance of winning the WS. Baseball playoffs are funky, especially as they get longer.

While Gilbert and Clifford are top prospects in our farm system, there's no guarantee they would be a game changer for us or any organization until late 2024 or 2025. You're getting back one of the greatest pitchers in all of baseball and are in another pennant race for at least 1.5 years and likely more.

Next year as well with a vesting option. I agree though, there has to be a large amount of cash coming.

I'm fine with it... I'm honestly not that high on Gilbert and Clifford in A ball is hard to judge. The Astros need to stop messing around when it comes to Tucker though and just give him what he wants.
