My first cousin's grandson has been promoted to the Major Leagues. So happy for him. Played 1st base at the University of Miami. Selected in the 3rd round by Cleveland in 2023. Considered small, but he's been tearing it up in Triple A. Wish my cousin could see him...unfortunately, he passed from cancer four months ago.

What an awesome experience for him. But kind of bittersweet I guess, with his grandpa not being able to watch.

He's living the dream for sure.

He's always played first base, but Cleveland is set there, so they've been playing him in right field. Check this one out from last week against the Mets...

Cleveland is playing the Red Sox at Fenway on Labor Day. Several of us are going to be there. Can't wait!

Hey! I actually drafted him in my OOTP baseball sim. He had a very respectable MLB career with 17.8 WAR in 11 seasons, and 147 HR

RBI double off Nathan Eovaldi today, pitcher with the best ERA in the whole majors.

Congrats and hopefully CJ keeps it up and has a long and fruitful career.

I saw him play Wednesday at Chase Field against the Diamondbacks. 1-4 I believe.

Had a great time at Fenway on Labor Day.

Got to see CJ play and spent the day with several relatives I'd not seen in years. In fact, met a few for the first time.

CJ has been in a batting slump, so we were hoping he'd at least get a base hit. He delivered in the second inning with the bases loaded. Count quickly went to 0-2...he worked it to 2-2, then hit a solid shot that scored the first run. He went 1-2 before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the 6th inning.

Four of us were wearing CJ's 63 jersey with 'Kayfus' above the number. Crazy, but we were able to order them from MLB and did not have to customize....already available within the first week of being on the roster. We were approached by several Cleveland fans that were curious why we were all wearing his jersey. When my two first cousins explained they were CJ's Great Aunts the whole tone changed. It seems like every Cleveland fan is excited about his prospects for the future. In a way, we felt like celebrities given we are related to him.

The icing on the cake was meeting CJ at the Four Seasons Hotel after the game. There were about 15 of us, at our mini-family reunion. In a way, the reunion was just as fun as the game. And Fenway Park...unbelievable place!

Even if he just has a cup of coffee in the big leagues, he is one of maybe 23,000 men to play in the major leagues since the 1800's. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment.

That is a cool story, congrats again and if you feel comfortable I'd love for you to keep sharing any tidbits of inside information about CJ and his time as a big leaguer.

Happy to share some tidbits.

CJ wasn't getting much 'love' from major league scouts when he was a senior in high school...in fact he went un-drafted as they didn't think he had the right size for a first baseman. He enrolled at Miami and put together two great seasons, but still didn't seem to elicit any interest. That all changed when he excelled in the Cape Cod league, which is by invitation only. He was drafted in 2023, so it's only been two years from the minors to the majors.

While he's a first baseman, he's been playing a lot of right field in the Cleveland organization. He seems to have adjusted well...he's quick (he has 3 sb w/Cleveland), and has a strong arm (he was a pitcher in high school as well as playing first base). Cleveland somewhat showed their hand last week when they released veteran first baseman Carlos Santana. However, it would not surprise me if he becomes a full time right fielder.

Cleveland has worked to improve his bat speed, and that has really helped his power. He hit back to back grand slams (over two consecutive games) earlier this year at Columbus. He also hit a home run against Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer who was rehabbing in AAA.

One of the things I've noticed is that CJ, though a left handed hitter, can hit left handed pitching. I mentioned that to his dad and he said he always has. Finally, don't expect to see CJ wearing 63 next year. He told me he didn't select that number and is hoping to have a lower number next year. I think he'd like to wear '2' which was his number at Miami.

Did he get the ball back after the home run off of Scherzer. Even if it was a minor league rehab start, that's a ball of want. Not every day you hit a home run off someone that will be in Cooperstown.

That's a great question. I'll have to ask. Yesterday, I saw the ball that was his first hit in the majors. The Guardians had done a lot of graphic work on it...his name, his first hit, the date, etc. One thing I heard from his father...the Guardian organization has been fantastic.

Just heard back from his father. Yes, he has the ball. Thanks for asking that question. I hadn't thought of that. Pretty cool to have hit a HR off a Cy Young award winner.

A couple of weeks ago my buddies and I were sitting down the RF line at the Diamondbacks v Guardians game. CJ came over before the game and gave a kid a ball. I told my buddies hey we can root for this guy. He got a hit that day.

Bottom of the 9th, based loaded, CJ steps up to the plate and gets hit with a fastball to the right shoulder.

That's taking one for the team. Not sure he could have moved out of the way of that pitch.

As a Ranger fan, I thought about this thread every time he was up to bat.

Congratulations to Cleveland and CJ on a great season. Disappointed with today's game, but congrats to Detroit as they were the better team.
