Perhaps I wasn't clear. you are right, the amount you spend will count towards your spending goal (5k for business) and when you hit the 5k in January, the 70k miles will post.
What I was trying to say, for example, is that if you spent $2132 in November, that amount would count toward the $5k but it would post to your SW in 2019, not 2020, and it wouldn't count for CP in 2020.
Another example:
Assumptions -
Business card is $5k min spend for 70k miles
Personal card is $1k min spend for 40k miles
So let's say you spend all but $100 on each of both the personal and business cards in 2019 (and say they post in 2019) and then finish them off in Jan 2020 by spending the $100 each. You'll get the 110,200 miles (70k+40k+200) In January leaving you 14,800 short. The fact that you spent the $5800 (4900+900) in 2019 and it posted in 2019 means you'll need to make some of that up. If you can do most of the spending in December after the billing cycle starts in, that would help.
