Howdy. Very, very, very early into my wine journey. I have a fellow Ag who is helping me along. Enjoyed stumbling onto this thread on TexAgs. Quick check of Grok, I found this…..

Oops, I did it again…I went off and bought some 2023 Detert cab sauv today. I passed on the regular bottling of cab franc, as I'll get the East Block bottling at some point (and I bought Dorsey's Detert vineyard cab franc a few weeks ago).

Any Houston wine Ags on here that want to come to a tasting that I'm hosting shoot me a DM. Tuesday, March 24. 6:30 with Frias Family vineyards. Have a few spots open, will be lots of good wine and I will do some cellar diving after the general tasting is over.

Frias is good stuff. Word of warning, bring your spare liver for this one. The times I've had tastings with them, they are not shy about sharing.

Is the Detert CF worth $125? I was going go buy a few bottle.

It's a solid wine but I tend to stick with the East Block CF. I don't think I've opened a bottle of the regular CF since the '07. I quit buying it for a while there and picked back up with 2016-2019 that I need to open soon. I do buy East Block every year. Luckily it's no longer only sold by the 3 pack.

I didn't know we had secrets about where we get our wine. I sure don't….

Here are a few good spots:

Benchmark
KL Wines auctions
WineBid auctions
Envoyer email list

Happy hunting.

Isn't it illegal for out of state retailers to ship to Texas? I know we've discussed on there before and still many are able to do it and there are some work arounds.

I know many do it, but i'm pretty sure technically it is against our state laws. we have to protect the distributors, you know.

French Country Wines, Tutilli, and Houston Wine Merchant all do free tastings on Saturday. If you hit all three you'd get to try 12-14 different wines over the course of an afternoon for free.

you can also go to the AOC Selections retail shop on Saturdays as they will have wines open to taste. Usually a good mix of champ, white and reds.

How would you all proceed? Transporting 350-450 bottles
About 4 hours?

I've got about 250 bottles off site, climate controlled. Most of which are 10-20 year old California cabs. I've got another 100ish bottles at home in a wine fridge running at 55 degrees, most of the at home bottles are what we consider drinkers.

We are moving. Taking our wine fridge with us for the 100ish that we keep at home. I haven't found an off site place in Tulsa that yet but considering an additional 200-ish bottle cooler to keep at home, which is the likely outcome.

That said, how do I safely transport that amount of bottles without messing things up, and doing it safely?

My initial thoughts were to have refrigeration good to go when we arrive, and borrowing the biggest off shore yetis with ice packs and taking them all directly from our off site point to another - this can also be multiple trips.

4 hours of transport isn't going to matter at all. Just put them in the car and go

But a bunch of lay flat shipping wine boxes. Pack and put in the back of your SUV. Wine will be fine.

For home storage, buy a 300 bottle one and put in the garage - assuming your garage has some temp regulation/insulation.

For anyone looking to try something great for free, this is the lineup at French Country Wines today. Not many chances to try Grand Cru Bourgogne blanc for free.

A 2026 RDX to replace a 2020. Dodged a bullet, because a month ago I thought we'd end up with a Range Rover Sport at double the price.

We tried Vin Santo this weekend and really enjoyed it. Casual, comfortable atmosphere and the staff was very helpful. Thanks for the recommendation ... will definitely go back.
