Thinking of getting one. Opinions? Don't want to spend more than 600.

Lots of options on pellet grills but yes from me. I use mine on a regular basis from chicken, fish, burgers, steaks for daily stuff. Brisket and ribs are good as well. It's a very easy way to smoke. I have two Traegers but wish I could try another due to temp issues. I want to go back to stick burning or an egg too.

I have a pit boss and love it. I won't go back to a regular pit. I have made great briskets on it quick and a lot easier than with a normal stick burner.

I have a Traeger that I received as a gift. I didn't necessarily have much interest in a pellet grill but I really like it a lot. Not sure I would necessarily recommend this brand but it has been fine for me.

Get a big offset. Much better flavor and you'll love tending the fire throughout the night.

Do they make any for men?

Husband had a stick burner and received a recteq bullseye as a gift and we use it 4x a week easily. It's so quick, easy and good. He can do ribs or a brisket and we aren't stuck at home worried about the fire. Young kids and busy lifestyle it's a no brainer -do it.

Men who have better things to do than sit next to a smoker drinking beer like a lazy bum for hours on end, yes. That's exactly the target market.

That's the point. "Honey, I can', I have to watch the fire."

I just got a green mountain. My local store recommended them over treager. I honestly haven't used it but I'm looking forward to smoking some slabs of beef

4x per week? What do you cook on it?

I have the big Traeger Pro: to me, it's all about the matrix of effort/time/attention.

Is it award winning? No.

Is it 90% good? Yes.

Can I set it and forget it? Yes. That convenience is worth the 10%.

I use mine 2x per week, usually whole chickens (x3) or 2 slabs of ribs and maybe a brisket per month. Once you know the tricks, then things get WAY better.

My first few briskets were sub par. Edible, but just lacking. When I figured out 1hr/1lbs then things really kicked up....but no sitting up all night tending. Yes, if you want to tend **** all night, then of course the quality will go up. But hell, I'm in my mid 40's. I would rather sleep. Or I'll be so drunk that I'll **** it up somehow.

Chicken, ribs, pork butts....it's just a no brainer. 90% of top quality at 5% effort....uh....yes.

Make sure you do your homework. Not all $600 pellet smokers are created equal.

Well, which one did you buy?

If I were you and you havnt bought one, I'd spend a few more bucks and get a rec teq. The controller is pid and will hold temp within 5 degrees of set point. Built like tank too.

Shhh....most people don't know about these.

BTW, don't just use plain charcoal. I mostly use lump charcoal with chunks of wood thrown in as well. Can easily cook 10 hours unattended if I want to.

Which one you have? My Masterbuilt will run through a whole load of lump in like 6 hours at 250. Only drawback I've found. But lots of people say theirs goes for more like 10 hours so I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I've used Kamajo Joe, B&B and cowboy(Costco) lump charcoal. All performed the same.

I have a pit boss. It's on the cheaper side, but I like it. Probably go with a Rec Tec next time, just based on word of mouth.

I watched a blind taste test on Bar BBQ scientist the other day. He used an offset, gravity fed coal and pellet. I think the gravity fed came in second as far as smoke flavor. Don't quote me. The offset was picked best by all tasters, I do remember that.

That's about right from my experience and research as well. I find it the perfect compromise between flavor and effort to get a good result. It's only downside (usually) is cost.

Mine is homebuilt, on a whole 'nother level than a Masterbuilt. The cook chamber is insulated with 2" mineral wool and the cooking furnace area is 1/2" steel lined with fire brick. It's pretty darn energy efficient. It's mostly a clone of this Stump's smoker with some of my own ideas thrown in as well: https://stumpssmokers.com/the-classic/

This is mine when it was still new/shiny:

Can anyone confirm this is legit?

https://www.recteqgrills.shop/

Those savings are too good to be true.

This is their legit site:
https://www.recteq.com/shop/grills

Too good to be true = scam. YMMV

I was looking at both and figured it wasn't real. Especially when you see what these grills are listed for on the real site vs. fake site.

What's irritating is Google auto fills it out to rec tec instead of rec teq. Which then leads to the fake site listed above the real site in the search results.
