Woah. That's way worse than I was expecting. I'd e-mail them. Part of the reason you're paying more is their customer service

Is is a brand brand new oven? Did you break it in? They'll have some oil in there you need to "burn out" before using.

Pretty much…I'm the first tenant in this apartment since it's a new build…

I had no idea I had to do that…can I save my Dutch?

I don't think that stuff is going anywhere. But I bet they will take care of it for you.

Did you get any non-regular smells or excess smoke when you used the oven for the first time? That would definitely be the case if it was brand new and not used ever before. And is probably the root cause of this issue.

Dang, hopefully they take care of me…the thing is, the place I bought it from never emailed me a receipt for proof of purchase…

Dang, what if they don't? What should I tell them?

The truth - it will be ok in the end.

I'm going to try some stuff today, like cleaning stuff and report back…

So, do you think I've adequately burned off my new oven? If it was at 500df for about 1.5hrs?

So, it came off with a salt and water paste and some elbow grease…

I'm so glad!!

Pretty sure he was asking if you burned off any residue from the Dutch oven and not your kitchen oven. Glad you were able to get it cleaned.

Glad it came off with some elbow grease!

What I was referring to was that with new ovens, there is factory oil/residue that you need to burn off on the inside before you use the oven. It will smoke when it does this and kick off a lot of oil in the oven.
