Long-shot - Favorite FROZEN wings?

We finally reached the tipping point on the price of restaurant chicken wings. We wanted wings tonight and when we went to order them from Wings and More we just couldn't - 50 wings are $86. BW3 was $68 for 50 wings. We decided to try frozen wings from the grocery store. They worked out well. We did one batch in the oven and another in the air fryer. The air fryer was obviously better. But the oven was not bad.

Our main complaint is that the wings were extremely salty. I melted some butter and tossed the wings in the sauce to try to take off some of the Satinas. It helped a little bit. My husband did a little bit of research and it seems this is a common complaint. Do you have a favorite brand of wings When you are in a hurry and/or just don't want to take the time to make them from scratch?

I might add that I bought two different brands. One came with an a sauce packet and the other didn't. The brand that came without sauce did not work as well. You can tell that they fried them and toss them in sauce and then froze them. Those wings did not cook up as well as the ones that needed the sauce packet. So I think the best wings will probably come without the sauce on them already.

Why not just buy plain wings and bake them? They've always been on of those things that make me scratch my head. It's literally no harder to make them than to heat the pre-made which will never be nearly as good because they are cooked and then frozen.

I didn't know that was an option! Grocery store I was shopping at today only had frozen buffalo wings. I will look harder. This seems like an ideal choice. We can do our own sauce.

There are five people in my family. I just can't fry 30 to 50 wings quickly. I have a deep fryer I tried once. The wings were good but it just took too long.

I've had good results with Alton Brown's recipe.

Plain, fresh wings are not always the easiest to find in my area and the pricing jumped more than any other consumer product I have personally seen. Prices went up for everyone across the board. Still cheaper than eating out of course but not so much to make it a no brainer every single time. At least for me.

I used to make these a couple times a year but the cleanup is a pain especially from the steaming step. Yuck.

Now I just grill them and they come out delicious and much less kitchen mess. Check out

Cleanup is one of the rains I won't fry wings. My MIL gave me a deep fryer but I never use it… wtf do I do with all that oil when I am done??? The spatter, too, is a mess. Then you have to wash everything. That's a LOT of work. I'd rather pay $86 for 50 wings.

I buy my frozen wings from Sam's or Costco. The price has gone through the roof. 34 bucks for a 10lb bag. When they are out HEB has a 5lb bag in the fresh section for 13.xx but it's all 3 sections so you have to cut them up.

Did a trial batch (3 wings) from raw in the air fryer. They were great. 400 for about 40 minutes. Skin crisped up great.

Fora family sized batch, I'll try it in the big convection oven, it has a roaster setting that keeps the air running constantly.

Next time you try them, whether in the air fryer or regular convection oven, try seasoning them with this before roasting. Then when they're done toss in your favorite sauce.

We do this recipe in the oven for our biggish family and our picky kids love it:

We usually make 2 or 3 sauces too for fun.

Made some wings in air fryer last night that were better than Wings N More. Take your raw wings and dry them with paper towel, lightly dust with salt, flour, and small amount of baking powder.

Bake at 370 12 minutes, flip and bake another 12 minutes. Turn temp to 390 for six more minutes and they are great.

For the sauce, take Sweet Baby Ray's Wing Sauce with 2 T butter and melt. Shake wings in sauce and I topped with lemon pepper.

Delish and easy!

If you are in B/CS Redfield's has drums and flats for sale in the fresh meat case. You can buy what pieces you want instead of a bulk bag.

I know you asked for frozen, but I haven't found a frozen to match these.

The best I've achieved so far is starting with raw, frozen wings. I cooked at 400 for 20 minutes, flip the wings over and cook for another 20 minutes. Then I tossed them in Sweet Baby Ray's wing sauce. Next time, we'll add a little bit of melted butter to the wing sauce first.

Chef John's cadence, the way he talks, is really annoying. However I have read the baking soda trick before. I did not try it this time but I might try it. Soon.

If you add baking powder, if they taste odd or bitter, look for aluminum free baking powder. Made a big difference for me.

I didn't even know baking powder had aluminum in it. I don't want to eat aluminum. I'm gonna look for aluminum free baking powder regardless.

I hear ya. But I can't think of one of his recipes I've tried that has let me down. His pork tenderloin Diablo is one of my favorites.

It's gotten to be where I go nowhere else for looking up my food and cooking advice than the this forum on Texags. If it's not here it is through a link provided here where I'll find the best links to a youtube channele or something. Thank you everyone here. I am appreciative of this invaluable information!

I like to put fresh wings on the BBQ grill versus baking them.

This. I grill then use 3 sauces. Classic wing sauce with butter, HEB mango habanero and a sweet and spicy bbq. Just ask how many each person wants of each. I pair it with some oven fries as well. No fried foods and they taste great.

Walmart & HEB carry it. It'll say aluminum free on the can.

We do the Grilled Fried wings as shown below:

One thing I don't do with breaded or slightly breaded wings is toss them with sauce. Tossing breaks off the breading and doesn't take long to brush. Usually sweet baby ray/butter combo for sauce and sometimes lemon pepper.

I love wings! My wife does not. But she will make them for me in an air fryer. She uses a packet of Buffalo wing seasoning ( McCormick) and then tosses them in melted butter and Franks Hot Sauce. Quick and easy. And plenty good for me. Making them for the Super Bowl. Yes!!

Kirkland Costco brand & Target's brand of Wings Good & Gather are some of the best frozen brand in my opinion. I'll make up a home made sauce and then cook them in the Air Fryer.

I've also cooked them on the pit/smoker as well as that works good too

If I have a little extra time, I will throw my wings into my smoker (i have a small electric one) and will smoke the wings. Similar in concept to the grilling approach, but I love the extra flavor of the smoke…plays really well with the buffalo sauce!

I made these yesterday and tossed them in Frank's. Better than almost any restaurant.

I'm trying a batch in the oven with baking powder for lunch. Air fryer makes great wings, but only on small batches.

I do a salt brine only. Grill to 180-200. Use sauce of choice. If you use Franks, I like it straight up but cut with butter for the kids. Could eat a million of them.
