Looking to purchase a quarter of beef to stock up the freezer. Willing to travel up to 3 hours from DFW for it. Hard to find anything worth it near me, but wanted to hear from others.

I'm more looking for purchasing a whole forequarter in bulk, and it doesn't appear that crowd cow offers that.

I am currently looking into purchasing from Rosenthal. Their next beef harvest is in April and the hanging weight price is less than 3.50/lb.

You might try Thompson's in Dublin or Comanche. They are processing the beef that I bought with my parents from Beaty Cattle Company out of DeLeon.

Keep in mind hanging weight isn't packaged weight, your final packaged weight yield is usually about 60% of the hanging weight, so that $3.50 per pound will definitely be going up by the end of it. You might already know that, but figured I'd throw it in there just in case.

Hell, if you are willing to come down to B/CS area, you should check these guys out instead. They are in the Brazos Bottom area and could also do 1/4 or 1/2 around April they said, contact them directly as right now their website just has retail cuts listed.

You will pay a bit more than rosenthal I'm sure, but quality is top notch. Me and my wife get all our beef from them now and even though it's ungraded like most of the direct to consumer stuff, can easily tell theirs is all top choice or prime. Good farming/ranching family that feeds their own crops as part of the ration to the cattle.

Thanks for this info. One question that I'm not seeing answered so far with this setup is how the animal gets from point A to point B. Are you hauling yourself or paying Beaty to deliver?

Thanks for the recommendation. I will inquire to them as well. Definitely looking to maximize yield to minimize the inflated cost per pound that loss incurs. I have no issue rendering tallow for bbq or making stock from bones.

Also, hope you're doing well! Been a little while since we were both at Producers.

I am, hope you are as well, I still live in Bryan so haven't moved too far. I recognized your username but wasn't sure if you still remembered mine.

Yeah check them out, but you're on the right track no matter who you buy from. If you've got the freezer space, it'll save you money buying in bulk like that. I ran some numbers using a few different producers feed types to feed one of our own steers out and get it processed awhile back. I still want to do it someday, just need to commit to it.

Beaty delivers to to processor. Mine just got dropped off today so I will have a few hundred pounds of beef to go pick up in a couple of weeks.
