I find that operating your diet in a calorie deficit during the week will really get the creative juices flowing for the cheat meal/day when it finally comes around. Your body will start craving things it doesn't normally want, you'll cook things you've never cooked, and you'll really look forward to it once that meal finally comes around (I usually get a craving on Tuesday, and by the time Saturday comes around, I'm super pumped for whatever I am making).
