They would not boot us for buzz. The most likely outcome here is we want a light non conference next year.

They invited us because of buzz.

But yes I imagine our coach wasn't interested in going into the grinder with a new roster. Doesn't mean we won't participate in future years (or when other similar tournaments pop-up).

Sorry for the poor formatting. Maybe its me, what am I missing that made Buzz above average here? Could compare where they finished in conference by year as well but that doesnt help his case.

It's kinda hard to gauge how good is "good" based on year to year records basis because opponents are different and in some years a different conference altogether.

I think Kenpom or Torvik ratings are better to use to compare.

Kind of surprised...why would the tourney sponsors want a Maryland team that ranks 300th or worse in 3pt shooting and FT% ?

Rumor has it that our players didn't get anything like what was advertised. Does anyone actually know what was received by our players? If the deal was done thru our Athletic Department, should that be available to us to see?

I'm just tryin to understand if there was actually harm to our program from Buzz's actions here and in particular to our one remaining player, Chris McDermott, or if the NIL stuff was mostly hype.

Think someone here a while ago said 4 of our top 10 best Torvik seasons ever were under Buzz. He didn't deliver that end goal of a deep tourney run like we wanted, but the people that act like he sucked here are way off base. He won a lot of games against really good teams

I hope Bucky works out because the last thing I need is another dark age

1) Schedule tough non conference. No reason to hide. We've openly Tom the world we have 1 player. 2) let's get into that Vegas tournament anyway and go beat MD ass. With a TBD roster.

I'll reserve judgment until I get a look at the final roster, but I think it's somewhat likely that we may decide that a watered down non-con sked is the best thing for us.

You can build some momentum in year 1 by having a deceptively good record and beating up on bad teams in the non-conference. Another consideration, and I don't know what Bucky's philosophy is on this or whether he's really been in a position to even develop a philosophy on it given his background, but it seems to me that a lot of high-paced run and gun type teams like to work out the kinks early in the season vs lesser opponents to kind of get their legs under them and get used to the pace in live action.
I would argue the opposite. If you have a bad roster, line em up and play em. That will only help get you ready for SEC play.


Meh confidence and being able to try tons of line ups can be helpful along with being reasonably fresh.

Mizzou's sos in non con was 226 pretty much just playing ku, Illinois and Memphis and they were just fine in sec play when they had tons of questions coming off an 0-18 conference play. Still ended up a 6 seed and could have been higher without a poor last few games.

From what I read the payouts came through. But there's a lot of question on how exactly the tournament is sustaining itself because no way it generated that much money.

And while I heard it was well run, I know a few weeks before the tourney they shifted from a multi-session, ticket for each session to one ticket for multiple sessions which would indicate that demand wasn't near what they thought it would be.

I'm ambivalent about the whole Buzz thing. It's a known fact that he had one foot out the door and I'm not sure that he gave us his best effort last year. On one hand, I really don't care how he does in Maryland and the other part of me hopes they lose.

Is it weird to say that I hope that he underperforms while Solo and Pharrel have good seasons?
