Effective immediately for personal matters. First of all, sincerely hope everything is ok on the home front and he is able to address anything there in the time and space away from HC duties for awhile.

But of course, this is SEC baseball so speculation and fallout will spin. Especially with the Vitello news breaking earlier.

I bet he and UF purposely announced this right after the Vitello news broke, hoping it would fly under the radar.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Oh. Guaranteed. And not a bad strategy tbh. If it were anyone other than Kevin. Dude is a piece of work and while that does not mean I wish overt ill on him and his family, it does get the speculation wheels spinning fast in the relatively small family we have here in college baseball.

Yeah, by speculation I mean instead of most just expecting something truly pressing in his family life, which still may very well be the case of course, given his past and his overall character some are definitely wondering, "What did he do…". Which is unfair but again. It's Kevin and it's offseason.

Yet, seem to be right in this case. Dude has a pattern.

Article linked has all the details. Nothing physical proven but has fostered such a hostile environment for his own kids they are terrified of him and have been reporting it to authorities for years now. Locking themselves in bathrooms waiting for cops to arrive…

Dude has no control. He has raged and punched walls and broken stuff in one of his own kids rooms. When does he finally snap and just hit them? What a mess. And authorities can't do much until he actually beats them apparently.

I come from an abusive household and my heart breaks to read this article and how hopeless his kid feels. He even claimed his dad is untouchable because of his job.

It's now in the open about his anger issues. Sadly as long as he wins his character will be ignored. Hopefully he gets some help but most of the people I have known like him blow up at some time.

In 2022 he hosted our grandson who had gone into the portal. The visiit at UF was great and he was very open and personable. I guess you never know all sides of a person.

Sounds like he's an a-hole with a vindictive ex-wife and at least one child who needs to toughen up. The idea that being yelled or cussed at is "abuse" is dumb.

Ideally a parent shouldn't raise their voice and certainly not cuss at their kid, no parent is perfect. My dad did that to me (and my sisters for that matter) a number of times. I'm sure he regretted at least some of it. Was it "abuse?" Maybe a little, but certainly nothing I'd ever thought about as such.

Unfortunately, there are many people around sports and athletics that have serious anger management issues in general. Obviously, it isn't limited to sports and some people are just, well, jerks who can't control anything, much less their temper. However, with respect to sports, society seems to reward (or at least ignore) those who come unglued at the least little thing, whether it is supposed disrespect from another player/coach or even fan, or a perceived bad call by an official.

And don't think people on here are immune to it.

We call road rage what it is. We call verbal abuse of children what it is. However, we excuse the hell out of the same behavior when it comes to sports because somehow, it is "part of the game." And people wonder why or are surprised when coaches and athletes behave in that manner in their personal lives.

There is such a wide range of "being yelled and cussed at" that it is impossible to judge a case just from hearing that alone.

Mental abuse I would argue can be just as bad as physical abuse and in some cases even worse. It is insidious and can go much further to destroy a person than bruises and cigarette burns ever can. Your body knows how to automatically heal those.

The idea of just "toughening up" to counter extreme cases of mental abuse ( which this is, let's call it what it is), is so archaic and wrong. It completely shifts the focus of the problem, the abuser, to the victim. Who often has no means to fight back against the abuser OR the symptoms of the damage the abuser is causing. It is just really recently the advent of mental health has been starting to become mainstream but there is still so much ignorance in HOW to address it. Especially for kids who are terrified.

Could this be a kid calling wolf? Maybe. Could this be a kid in real distress? Also maybe and with this a-holes background and what he is willing to show the world up front ( indicating what he shows behind closed doors is so so much worse) I would give the benefit of the doubt to the kid that they are living in an environment that could only be described as abusive.
