We need 5.5 points to win. Here are events where either we'll be favored or have a good shot to win (and my predicted most likely:

Women's BB: (two games, 1/2 pt each) .5
Men's BB: 1/2 pt left 0
Women's Indoor Track & Field 1
Softball (two games, 1/2 pt each) .5
Women's Tennis College Station 1
Women's Golf 1
Women's Outdoor Track & Field 1
Baseball (2games in College station) 1

That's on track for 6 pts and a 10.5-8.5 victory- most likely scenario.

We could also pick up another .5 in men's and women's basketball, and softball, giving us a 12-7 victory in a best-case scenario.

On the other hand, we could lose baseball, women's tennis, both women's basketball, and t.u. win everything they should, which would make it 9.5-9.5 and the sips retain their title. I think that is our worst-case scenario.

Personally, I think 12-7 against the horns has always sounded pretty good.

I think the men's basketball team matches up very well against the Horns and have an excellent chance to win in Austin. I think the matchup problems we present Texas are similar to the problems that Tech has given us. While no game in Austin is a gimme, I think we should win there. I will be extremely disappointed if we do not get at least one win in men's track. This is Coach Henry's fourth year and while the women's team has done very well the men have not. This is his fourth year and he has virtually all athletes that he recruited. It is simply not excusable to pay a track coach that much money and not at least split with Texas.

You forgot men's golf. We also have a better than even shot to pick up a point there.

good to hear. I didn't know about golf, but I recalled we didn't win last year.

Men's swimming is tonight. It will be tough to win that one.

It won't happen. tu probably doesn't deserve their #1 ranking but only Israel Duran and Jacobo can hang with their counterparts at Texas. The final score will be "managed" to keep if from looking like a blowout.

How much longer until A&M can truly compete with the sips in swimming? Bultman has been building the women's program since 1999. Will it take as long for Holmes?

I have met Jay Holmes and everything I hear says he is a good coach. Our swimmers seem to develop well, are great teammates, etc. But our freshmen are just slower than the freshmen that Texas (and Auburn, Stanford, Florida, Arizona, etc.) get.

We have excellent facilities. But I have a fear that we will never reach tu's level as long as Eddie Reese is their coach. He is one of the top 5 coaches in the sport. He will be the USA's Olympic coach for the second time. So I think a superstar like Jimmy Feigen or Ricky Berens won't take us seriously compared to Texas. There is a good chance 3/4 of the USA's Olympic medley relay is Texas exes (Peirsol, Hansen, Crocker). Texas exes hold muliple current world records including Neil Walker. You can see Texas' most recent class here. About half already have Olympic trials qualifying time.

Jay has been forced to recruit foreign swimmers to get the speed he needs. Auburn and Arizona do the same thing. SMU recruits many foreign swimmers.

I think we need to find a few "jewels" off the beaten path - kids who maybe weren't recruited by Texas or Auburn, but who develop into NCAA champions and Olympians. USA Olympians would be much better than Slovakian Olympians. I have nothing against these fine foreign swimmers - I just think it's better for our recruiting if we can recruit and develop American (or Texas) kids.

Maybe LOB has an opinion on this.

Texas coach Eddie Reese is the 2004 and 2008 U.S. men's Olympic coach and he personally coaches 3 of the top 4 U.S. male swimmers in the world right now...the horns have also won 27 straight conference titles, all under Reese...they are also ranked No. 1 in the nation...needless to say, they have a little bit of an advantage in recruiting at the moment...it will take a monumental effort to get past them...

ya that score for mens swimming was WAY closer than anyone expected, regardless of the face that the sips exhibitioned the last 2 events. even if they hadnt it woulda still been closer than expected. The Ags really jumped up fast to start the meet, winning the first relay. they caught the horns off guard for sure with that. sent them a little wake up call id say. awesome meet for our men, good job fellas

If I may correct my original post and insert a point or two for men's track

well, after our nice road win in softball, we stand at 7-4.5 I had conservatively estimated a loss here, along with a loss in wbasketball that didn't happen, so that gives us a little bit of a cushion should our women's tennis not come through.

It's also looking like men's track and men's golf has a great chance of putting up a point each, allowing further room for error.

At this point, tu's best chance would be to capture baseball, mens and womens tennis, men's golf, and men's track, to eke out a 9.5pt tie.

That is one TALL order!
