The rankings are completely based on what is the perceived place of finish at nationals.

Not who has the deeper team, but who is thought to have the better top guns who will point most at nationals. My guess is that texas has a bunch of guys who pointed in NYC who will not point at nationals and then Tenn has guys who pointed at NYC that will point at nationals.

Exactly right, we have some sprinters and jumpers that are looking pretty good in the national marks. That is pushing up our projected finish.

Gerald Phiri and Julian Reed are two great freshman for the men. Plus Dykes is running great in the 200.

In track rankings are different, everything is based on how they predict you will finish at nationals.

This means, if you line up to schools head-to-head, the higher ranked team may lose this matchup.

The higher ranked team may have a few guys in specific events that are the best in the nation, that will score very well at nationals. Another team may have a better overall team, but not have anyone that will make it to nationals

It is about time that the men are ranked that high. The men's team has been a huge disappointment since Ted Nelson was fired. The men have not finished higher than fifth at conference and have not been in the top ten at nationals. We put as much money if not more than anyone else in track and we should get that kind of return on our investment. I will be disappointed with anything less than conference championships indoors and out along with top ten or better national finishes. This team is almost all Coach Henry's recruits with a number of transfers and international students that should be able to compete right away. Track is not like football where you have to redshirt (distance running is an exception but we don't put emphasis there).

The women have been great and should win both conference titles again and probably be top five or better nationally. This has been a dramatic improvement. Our previous head coach was a deadbeat who should have been fired long before he was finally let go.
