I just want to say that my kid's HS basketball teams - both boys and girls - kick some serious butt.

According to the Ft. Worthless Startlegram, which lumps the 3A, 2A, and 1A teams together for its rankings, the boy's team is #7 and the girl's is #1...

Last night, the boy's won 83-57 vs Poolville...Although, the team played easy in the 3rd and 4th periods..

But, the girls won 90-13.

The score was 28-0 after the first period and 49-4 at half. The Poolville girls managed a high of 6 pts in the 4th quarter.

I've never been a fan of HS basketball before, but here in Brock it is the #1 sport. In fact, it is so much so that there is NO FOOTBALL TEAM....that's right, here in TX there is a HS with no football. I even talked with a schoolboard member and he told me "Around here, football is the 'f' word."

I'm actually starting to like it.....

Well, I just had to get that off of my chest...

Wait for 2 more years when my oldest son is playing...I'll be up everyone's butt talking about BHS basketball then...

Any chance that their coaches would be interested in the A&M jobs?

Oh, those basketball-only schools are to be feared. Have you ever been to Kennard in East Texas? I pass through it on the way to visit pals in Nacogdoches. Also, don't forget about what Snook has done to people in the past..they were a REAL terror in the high school hoops scene.

Brock has a history of being highly ranked and fizzing out in the end. They had more success at 2A than they have at class A. Maybe they'll shake that moniker this year.

Snook is one of the all-time powerhouses in Texas High School basketball. Players such as Calvin Gerke and Stan Kerr are among the best athletes to ever play in the state.

Kennard has always been up and down. They are very, very athletic but usually undisciplined. Last year and this year they have really put it together though.

Brock 112
Covington 6

No. That is not a misprint. Covington scored 6 in the 1st period - and had gooseggs for the last 3.

I'm thinking this Brock girls team is SCARY.

Nazareth awaits so don't count those chickens quite yet.

LaPoynor would have won the whole thing going away if their best player hadn't blown her knee out.

I listened to it on the radio. Saturday morning's final should be a great one.

LaPoynor has had problems handling the ball all year. The player that was hurt was by far their best offensive player. She was a 5'11 guard that was an excellent shooter and could handle the ball.

From what I heard on the radio, La Poynor simply couldn't handle the defensive pressure. Having just one person who is able to do that could have RADICALLY changed the face of the game. That said, Brock is probably a better team either way. Brock has much more depth than LaPoynor and was much more experienced. I don't think LaPoynor starts a senior.

Naz will be able to handle all of the pressure Brock applies. I think the key will be who shoots the ball better. Naz only shot about 30 percent from the field on Thursday and that won't be enough to beat Brock if they are clicking like on Thursday.

I get my 1A info from all over. It helps that I know a lot of coaches as well.
