Double's point cost us the match,

Like I said in a previous post. They have absolutely no chance against a top team if they cant win doubles and are useless at 6. A good team is defined by a few great players, A great team is defined by a team of great players. They cant continue to give up an automatic 2 points to every good team they play and expect to win. Agreed. Like I said on another thread, Jerry M. is a quitter and was a lousy teammate to those guys this season. If I were one of the guys on the team, he would be dead to me.

Even if he "lost interest in tennis" as some other posters claim, even then, a demotivated Makowski should have been able to win every time against every team at 6...or even if Denton played him higher to not be accused of stacking, he would still have won some matches and given everyone below him a chance to play one spot lower.

I'll leave this topic alone from here forward - I'm just mad to lose 4-3 to the hated Tceh when Makowski could definitely have turned that score into 4-3.

I agree that Jerry might have given us an edge, but he wasnt there, so let it be. I guess youre right at #6 though, we just will never be able to put our faith in Kayvon. I guess he will never amount to anything.

Way to give up on our team this early. Tceh is a good team, and they apparently wanted it more today. Kayvon is a freshman, and thus, it may take him a little bit to learn how to win those big matches. Dont count him out yet.

Not sure how you got this from what I wrote...or that I'm giving up on the team. Being mad that what should have been one of our 2 best players this year quit as we were beginning our conference schedule and being mad that we lost to the sand fleas doesn't equal giving up - I'll still be there supporting them whether they're #1 in he country or last in the Big XII...as I have for the last 10 years, which gives me a litte bit of license to have an opinion.

As far as letting it be, I plan to - I said so in the above post. Let's not get into a stupid name-calling exchange DomitianAg style (or whatever his name was before he was banned for the billionth time), but you might want to take the time to read what is written before you start getting defensive about things that weren't said or that you incorrectly inferred.

Its easy to make excuses why A&M could have lost to Tech. The reality is great teams dont need to worry about excuses, because they get it done when its on the line. Losing to Tech and Texas, probably hurt more then losing to other teams, simply because of the tradition between the schools. Tech is a strong team no question about it, but when comparing facilities, budgets, tradition, fan base, A&M should win hands down, thus its expected for A&m to be better then Tech, which has not been the case as of late. Its certainly to late to rule out Kayvon as a freshman, but the difference between being good and great is having freshman that can come in and contribute right away. You hope that they mature and continue to improve, but to be considered a legit top 10 or top 5 team every year, you cant wait for players to develop. They need to come in from day one and make an impact and thats what you see at Virginia (Sanam Singh), Texas (Corrie, Damico), etc. A&M scored big with spencer and krajicek, but they are still one player short and 3 doubles teams shy of being anything more then your run of the mill top 25 or top 30 team. They dont have the depth to be a consistent threat. Like I said previously as well, I think Denton is laying the groundwork for success and I think next year could be an outstanding year for the Ags if he can produce a couple more studs like he did this year. Oh well, thats what this forum is for, to agree to disagree, etc.

Kayvon played competitively at 6 losing 7-5 in the third. Denton or Bobby need to spend some time on the continent over the summer and bring in one or two top flight international juniors. We need impact players not projects.

Harry Dunne and Bigfoot now there is some great tennis knowledge Side note tceh's coach turned us down for this job then beats us that is rough.

Exactly. I am just happy that anyone cares enough about Aggie tennis that I have people to agree/disagree with.

He might have played competitively at 6, but Hes an Aggie he should be expected to compete every match. He needs to be winning consistently, its not like it was a surprise he lost. He hasnt won an important match yet. I could go out there and play my heart out, but it doesnt mean I need to be the one out there, because I fight hard. They need a 6 they can count on, that gives them chances to win. Hes proven he cant do that yet, but I think they are in a position where he is still the best they have so what do you do. There is always next year.

As for Kayvon, he is a freshman and will have to learn how to win those matches. He will get there, there is just a pretty steep learning curve.

I think what I read out of your post was that we needed Jerry to win. I dont think I am the only one to think this, but Jerry (albeit a great player in his time) was a cancer for our team. We did not need his attitude or his (lack of) work ethic on the team. That is my personal opinion. If he had been playing this year or last like he did his freshman or soph year, I would be sad to see him gone.

siegel wanted the job, and a lot of people pulled a lot of strings to get him in the running. the only reason he didn't take it is because his wife and kids didn't want to leave lubbock. strange, but true.

Camden you've got to be kidding..That is a lie... Your telling me his wife didn't want more money and a better position just so they could stay in buttock???? Really??... aTm is a move up in the coaching ladder. Sounds like some serious spinning.

Just as in most cases there are different reasons. While many of you prefer the brazos valley there are those who don't care for the area. I live in the Austin area yet travel and work on the road weekly in DFW area. When my customers ask me why I chose to live in central Texas instead of DFW. I ask them one question.

wow, Harry- way to slam a fellow Ag. We ought to thank him for the great job he's done for Aggie tennis. And leave it at that.

I am not "slamming" him - I'm just voicing my opinion about what I think was a poor decision...and if I were to take it easy on him, it would be if he were an 18 year-old kid, but he's not: He's an almost 24 year-old man who is very intelligent, has been around the world, and has been an Aggie for 4 years, so I expected more.

Like Mr. Dunne said, Hes a quitter. If things were building up he should have done himself and the team a favor and quit before the season started. Its been a downward spiral the last two years anyways so you know he wasnt into Aggie Tennis anymore. He did some great things for Aggie Tennis, but no one will remember that years from now. They will remember the kid that quit mid season. Very unaggie like. Quit defending him. He may have made his decision and we should respect that, but at a detriment to what? Yes he is his own man, but he is in a team sport. His decisions and attitude affect the whole program. I have no sympathy for the kid, I hope he does well, but as a collegiate athlete and more importantly an Aggie Athlete, I think the kid is pretty weak and has no heart. Thanks

I spent 1.5 years there, longer than I needed to figure out that I didnt like it there.

Womens tennis should still blank them 7-0, its a recurring theme

From my prospective I noticed JM seemed to lack the intensity he had when we played ATM his first two seasons. Over the last two years I have seen him from Austin to Tulsa playing in the fall tournaments mostly and each time he had his books near by . Both before and after matches he could be found studying. I respect that.

As for tennis in 08, he has been done for a while. When we played at the Texas Cup match in Houston he played as well as I had seen him play for a while, apparently that did not continue. His departure was not a surprise.

That's why this generation of kids is such a bunch of crybabies and quitters. They do something like this and then everyone says, "poor baby, don't slam him - he was burned out, be more understanding!". Then they grow up from excuse-making kids to excuse-making men.

actually, i'm old school and probably older than you, and i agree in general with your philosophy....

However you feel, it raises a very interesting question:

Do players - for any NCAA sport - "owe" it to the team to play all season, even if it isn't what the player wants?

I understand the scholy debate - even more so for sports like tennis when they are limited b/c of Title 9. But we can't forget (and even though I don't believe it) - the NCAA's focus is student first, athlete second. Jerry, as a NCAA player, had the right to do it. As fans, we don't like it. But the choice exists, and I can respect that.

Quitting on yourself is disappointing, but when you bail and others (teammates) are hurt that is despicable.
