There seems to be several swimming enthusiasts on here so I thought I would see if I get any bites.

Our club team is trying to host a pre-summer league swim camp for 1 hour each weeknight from April 7 - 18 but our coach plans have not solidified as hoped. Looking for someone over 20 with a USA Swimming coach certification. Please reply back if you know someone who might be interested or have any other suggestions.

I'm in Austin so I can't recommend anyone specifically in Houston. I don't know if you plan to pay this person or not - something to think about.

But NCAAs are over and the area college teams and swimmers might be available for something like this. UH and Rice both have NCAA women's programs. One of their athletes might be able to do this.

You might also call Thomas Boak at the Woodlands Masters team and ask him to recommend someone. I don't know him personally but he is one of the coaches of that team and probably knows a lot of swimming people in the Houston area.

Other considerations could be area high school coaches. Some of them aren't very good though so you'd want a recommendation.

Thanks, Spicewood. I'll look into those. Yes, we definitely plan to pay. The UH and Rice girls are a good suggestion as they are probably pretty qualified.

Since you mentioned summer league, I'm guessing that your club is not a USS team. Therefore, I would reach out to one of the many Houston USS teams to see if one of their coaches is interested. An age group assistant might be more willing and a better fit for your group than a head coach would be. Here's the gulf swimming list of teams in the Houston area:

Yes, we are a USS team. We are just hosting the camp for non-USS swimmers who want to get a head start on summer league. We have our own coaches but didn't want to pull them away from our year round swimmers. We thought we had it lined up but most of it has not developed as hoped. We have feelers out to Rice and UH. As it turns out, a USA coach certification is not a requirement for this job, just the lifeguard/CPR certs.

I hope you get something from the college kids. They are young enough to remember their summer league days. And they do drills all the time as part of their practice. Many of them work in the summer as lifeguards and summer league coaches.

I appologize for my assumption. My suggestion is obviously not any help. I hope everything works out. This time of year should allow for plenty of college swimmers to help.
