Basically what the people that put out the rankings do is look at the times from each event, and try and determine where that team would finish at the national meet.
That is great news for both teams. The women's team certainly deserves the high ranking and is showing what happens when you replace a loser of a coach with someone who can get it done.
I am a little leery of the men's ranking. While nationals and conference are two different things you do not see a team that finishes fourth or lower in a conference like the Big XII win national titles. I know there are different events outdoors but the men's team will not score at nationals in the discus or javelin. They may score a point or two in the 400 hurdles if lucky and the sprint relay should be second behind LSU. Adding ten points on to what we scored indoors does not win a national title. I think it reflects more a situation of teams like Florida State and Arizona State not getting the season going. I will be happy to see this team finish top five at nationals and just as importantly, finally win a conference title.
aggie2207, we have the best 400 hurdler in the conference. He got second at Texas Relays, and before that he had not yet been beat, and came in to the meet with the fastest time in the nation.
The points scored I was projecting was for the national meet. We will score significant points in the discus, javelin and 400 hurdles at conference and could win all three. The national meet is a different story.
Well it would be nice if we could beat tu in the Big 12 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 16, 17, & 18th. Tu beat our men at the indoor meet.
