It was a combination of things. I think they were tired and a little mentally off after that game Sunday/Monday. They committed a lot of reaching, stick fouls which put the Wings on the powerplay and you can't beat them if you're always killing penalties. Their PP is too good. Yes, Marty gave up 4 but I don't think there was much he could do about any of them. He needs help from his mates if they're going to get back in this.
atm: that's just it. you can't let them get speed through the neutral zone and gain the offensive zone in control of the puck. You have to stand up at the blue line or even center ice and force them to dump the puck in and then need good outlet passes from your D or from Marty. But even doing that is dangerous because if you're not alert the d will get split just like Filpila did on his goal.
by the way, that call to give them a 5 on 3 early was nothing more than a ref saying "I have control of this series and won't let it get out of hand". Which is fine if the series is getting out of hand, but that's in the first 5 minutes.
