The Aggies take on Miami tomorrow (Monday) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The match starts at noon. The Hurricanes are ranked about 39 and should provide a good challenge for our young guys.

I saw on the A&M website that Cook is playing #1. Does anyone know if Cook has played Miami's freshman in the juniors before? Interesting move by Coach Cass.

If anyone would be so kind as to give a personal account of the match, that would be greatly appreciated.

I saw the match...Lester fought hard, but the other guy was pretty damn good...HARD hitting baseliner...and called lines EXTREMELY close I might add. Lester had a set point in the first, and eventually lost a close tie-breaker. After that, the Miami kid seemed to settle in and started hitting his spots...awesome groundstrokes off both sides.

Fortunately, Ryan won a hard fought match on court two, and Ante and Keith annihilated their opponents. Jared cruised to a relatively easy victory to give us the forth point.

As to why the roster change, I'm not quite sure...Ryan versus this Widom kid would have been an interesting match, but Coach may have been glad to take one point away from the 1 and 2 singles, knowing we were deeper than they were.

The kid Ryan played was named Tomas Smid, which seems to ring a bell. Wasn't there a pro by that name that played back in the Connors / Borg era? His father perhaps.

Thanks for the update.

I checked www.collegetennisonline (great site by the way), and it said that Tomas Smid is the son of the former pro Tomas Smid - "his father, a former professional, was ranked No. 9 in singles and No. 1 in doubles in 1984."

I wish the TAMU website would have the bios of the tennis teams.

Hey Raven...got a question for you. The news release listed official attendance at 378. I was there and know there weren't more than 50 or so people in the stands. I assume then that "official attendance" is calculated by adding the number of sold season tickets to the number of "walk-ups"....correct?
