Spencer's near-triple was not quite as impressive as Mount Pleasant-San Jose Vashti Thomas' victories in four girls events. Thomas, the defending state champion in the 100 hurdles who is headed for Texas A&M, set a CCS meet record in the event with a 13.52, which is the top time in the state. She set a CCS meet and section record in the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, 1 1/2 inches. She bested her own national-leading mark (42-8 3/4) from earlier this season. Thomas also won the long jump (20-5) and the 100 meters (11.95). Thomas has won 12 CCS titles in her career.
