Not sure how many of you guys care about this, but back in April the TAMU Trap and Skeet team travelled to compete at the ACUI Collegiate Championships. As a team overall A&M did outstanding and finished 2nd overall to Lindenwood University (for those of you who don't know they offer full rides for shooting so it is quite hard to compete). Individually we had Laura Kolb win the women's overall, Brazos Lackey finish runner up and JP Gougler and Troy Kensinger finish 6th and 7th repsectively. We won the team event for International Skeet mens and placed 2nd in the International Trap (if memory serves me right). We also placed 2nd in American Skeet and 3rd in American Trap as a team. These are 3 man teams for the international events and 5 man teams for the American Events.

As a side note that I thought would make you Ags proud is the fact that due to a scoring error during the American Skeet event, we would have had enough targets to claim an overall victory; however we decided to do the right thing and tell the officials about the error (we were given an extra 7 targets which was more than enough to win the overall). We ended up 4 or 5 targets behind Lindenwood for our closest finish yet. We have been getting closer and closer every year and I really thought that this year would have been the year.

For any of you interested on the next couple of Friday's ESPNU should be showing highlights of the tournament. I will post some details when I find them

Wow - that is super. A lot of us Ags aren't encumbered by the NCAA thing. We love it when our Aggie compete - be it football, drill team or club sports. Thanks so much for the update.

Gig 'em Aggies.

Yes, our A&M Trap an Skeet team has been fighting that uphill battle against Lindenwood and making steady progress the past few years. I was looking forward to our team beating them on the field next year.
Sadly, due to someone's error in judgement, it appears that will now not take place. The Lindenwood team was disbanded and the coach fired after a celebration on the bus ride back to school in which alcohol was involved. Apparently the celebration got out of hand and one of the team members got in his car and proceeded to ram it into a house. (No injuries, I'm glad to say.) It looks like the Lindenwood team is toast.

EDIT: I think, also, that you left out Mimi Wilfong. Didn't she win the International Trap event?

Gun safety is no accident.

Here are the air dates for watching:

The ACUI college championships will be aired on ESPNU June 20, 27 and July 4, 11. The 5-stand finals will be aired on ESPN2 on July 23. Check local listings for air times.

Shotgun, you are correct; Mimi Wilfong did win International Trap.

Finally, I understand that Lindenwood just hired a new coach and will field a team. I cannot remember his name. He was in College Station last week helping coach at a camp and they announced to the campers that he'd been named.

Congrats to JP, Brazos, Mimi, Troy and all the rest! Great job!

I'm glad to see that Lindenwood is apparently getting the team back together. It would have been a hollow victory to have won it all next year without them being represented.

Glad to hear that they have regrouped and started a team again for next year. That was a tragic thing and really hurt the sport in some people's eyes. I have known the guy who was driving and he is an amazing shot and sponsored by some pretty big shooting companies. I haven't heard much about it but its sad if he threw that all away.

Sorry to Mimi, I was trying to remember everything off the top of my head and me being a skeet shooter I showed favoritism towards that

Also, I hope to hell that next year will be the year we win it but its going to be hard losing Brazos and myself as well as some others. I have faith that we can get it done though. We have some amazing shooters that can and will shoot lights out, but the problem always has been and will be that they just have the sheer numbers over us. They have 15 shooters or more that are capable of winning an event and without us being able to offer any money, its hard for us to get those kind of numbers.

Thanks for the support though guys!
