So we finished behind Ohio State because we don't have men's lax, women's rowing or men's volleyball...

The Sears Director's Cup is a bogus ranking because it gives equal weight to all sports. Football and basketball carry the same weight as fencing, bowling, tennis, golf, swimming and track and field. The more sports you have the better off you are. The more low profile sports you play the better off you are. It is a meaningless ranking.

If we want to win the Director's Cup then you should push for bowling, men's soccer and volleyball and other non-revenue sports to be added to our program. I could care less about those sports or our rankings in the cup. It is more important that we get football fixed and continue to be successful in basketball and baseball. After that, the rest are minor sports that don't matter all that much. You can rave about the success we have in these other sports and say that they are bigger than lacrosse or water polo but in the big picture they all stack up the same.

2207 we all know it does that. We all know football is king. Just take it for what it worth.

You are correct. I don't think folks should get worked up either way regarding this. It is a non-story in my mind.

Hey Aggie2207 - I think football scholarships should be cut to 46 - two deep on both sides plus two kickers.

The team can give out scholarships in tenths or quarters like most sports are forced to. The players would have to fight harder to keep their fraction - or earn a bigger fraction.

Knock down the whole arms race the NCAA happily allows to persist.

So I care a lot about the non-football and basketball sports - and the Director's Cup.

I have spent much time around the water cooler bragging about our non-revenue sports performances. No, I'm more concerned about how football and basketball are doing. You can care about the other sports all you want. I could care less. Why should it matter to you that I think all the fuss about the minor sports is much ado about nothing?

My initial comments were regarding the disappointment about finishing behind Ohio St. because of points they scored in sports we don't contest. Those sports are just as insignificant in the whole scheme of things as our non-revenue sports are. If you get your Aggie high rooting for softball, swimming, track, etc. more power to you. I don't care about them. What matters to me is how we are doing in the major sports that drive the Athletic Department. *****ing about who gets what scholarship is pointless. Go join the round table with Donna Lopiano and her cohorts. Maybe they will care.

2207 -- Aggie 1906 is right about your caring capacity The correct phrase for your position should be "I couldn't care less", signifying that you are already at the bottom of your caring level.

I think the Directors' Cup is worth noting. Revenue production has nothing to do with the success of a school's various team-athletic endeavors. The kid on the swim team wants to succeed just as much as the star quarterback. The swim team should strive to improve it's position against other swim teams. Why not measure how your school's entire athletic efforts stack up against other schools? If not, why field the team (don't say Title IX)?

Just know that some of the 'humorless' people you are 'jacking' with could be some of the athletes themselves...a lot of them may not post on here but I assure you they read a lot of the stuff people write...badmouthing what they spend an enormous amount of their time doing, and in doing so representing where you went to school -- some of them all the way up to the world level, is at the very LEAST in poor taste...

If you don't like them or their sports, then don't post here. There are plenty of us here that support them that will.
