The Aggie softball team lost again to tu ... at the Aggie Softball Complex. It's time for a change ... Coach Jo Evans took over a program that won 3 national titles under Coach Brock, and she can't even get her team to place in the top 3 in the Big 12.

I heard rumors before this season started that it might be her last year as head coach ... her team is 2-4 in Big 12 play ... and, it's time to say "BYE-BYE, Coach Jo".

They lost to a t.u. team with a fish who could be the best collegiate softball pitcher ever. Cat already has 4 no-hitters this season, and almost got her 5th against us. It's not as if we lost to a crappy t.u. team -- when their pitcher slings 14 K's in one game, there isn't much Jo can do about it.

It's OK to have an open mind as long as you don't let your brain fall out.

FOR EXAMPLE:
From the 4/1/02 hearing for the American Taliban, John Walker Lindh:

Defense lawyer George Harris: "The defendant contests that he ever intended to be part of a conspiracy to kill civilians or Americans. . . ."

Judge T.S. Ellis: "Well, what was he doing out there?"

The bottom line is, then, that a player like "Cat" should be wearing Maroon ... the bonghorn softball team was a joke just a few years ago ... now, they have passed over the Aggies. No coincidence that Jo Evans was at the helm when this "passing over" took place.

If I'm not mistaken, the A&M softball program was already on a bit of a decline before Coach Evans took over. Keep in mind that we haven't been to a College World Series since 1988, so it's not like Coach Evans took over a national powerhouse and ran it into the ground.

As for t.u., a lot of their success is based on luck of timing. They started their program right when women's athletics, and money spent on women's athletics, really exploded. Thus, they have a pretty snazzy facility built with Red McCombs' money. Our facility was built in 1994, a year or two before women's athletics got really popular. Thus, even though we have a good facility, it doesn't have the look of t.u.'s.

A comparable example is Skydome in Toronto, it opened in 1990, I believe, and at the time was considered state of the art. In 1992, or so, Baltimore opened the retro style Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which became the standard for new ballparks. Now, Skydome is considered obsolete, even though it is only 12 years old.

... losing to Kansas yesterday is inexcusable. A new softball coach is on the way.

Jo Evans isn't going anywhere. If you are looking at firing mediocre coaches, there are several others to get rid of before you get to her.

Texas was a CWS team a few years ago. Since you have one regional win since 1995, I think they passed over the aggies well before now.

And I don't understand why you say it's easier to compete now with more money being pumped into women's sports. It seems like it would have been easier to compete back in the 80s when there weren't as many teams, schools didn't spend very much money, and most teams weren't very good.

So does the difference in ballparks explain why Baltimore does better than Toronto? Facilities aren't the explanation for everything. UCLA has a dinky little ballpark with no lights (like Fullerton had until a few years ago). It hasn't seemed to hurt them.

The Aggie softball complex is a top 10 softball facility ... that's NOT the problem.

If Coach Jo doesn't place her team in the Big 12 top 3 this year ... yes, SHE WILL BE GOING SOMEWHERE.

Are you serious? There's not even a home locker room. It's barely top ten in the conference.

And she's not going to finish in the top 3 in conference. You'll be lucky to go 6-4 for the rest of the season, and I think 5-5 is more likely. That won't put you in the top 3, but Jo Evans isn't going anywhere.

Hey Ba not that I care about softball but you like to diss on our facility well here is a little description for you

Located on the west side of the A&M campus adjacent to the Anderson Track & Field Complex and across the street from Olsen Baseball Field, the complex is representative of the A&M athletic department's continued support of its women's programs and its commitment to improving the A&M softball program.

Park highlights include covered raised seating for 1,750 four feet above playing field level. The complex features a lighted field with a Tifway 419 Bermuda outfield. Center field depth is 220 feet, while right and left field depths are 190 feet. A ground crew, supervised by award-winning groundskeeper Leo Goertz and assisted by Craig Potts, is responsible for playing surface maintenance.

Moreover, the complex is equipped with sunken dugouts, four lighted batting cages, two bullpens and an enclosed press box. It also houses a separate ticket office as well as restroom facilities and a concession area.

In addition to serving as the home of A&M softball, the complex also has functioned as one of the sites for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Exposure Camp. It also has served as the host site for numerous high school softball district, area and region state playoff games.

Now go run along your "life partner" is calling you.hahahahahhaha

I care, if you represent A&M, I don't care what it is you play to WIN. As to call the softball complex a top 10 facility , I can tell you have never been to a game there. It's closer to being a bottom 10. Update the facilities before you judge Coach Evans.

to summarize: the stadium has grass, metal bleachers, lights, bathrooms, and a hot dog stand. Off the top of my head, I can only think of about 7 or 8 high school stadiums that can match that.

Wow! Excitement over something besides football!

The Aggie Softball Complex (I must admit, I don't like the name), is one of the top facilities in the nation. I have been to a few, including UCLA & Fullerton State, to name a few. Yes tu has a nice one, but ours is top notch. Most of "major college" facilites are basically glorified high school fields.

As for Coach Jo, if she is forced out, that would be as stupid as forcing RC or MJ out. While the softball program was top ranked under Bob Brock, A&M, Fullerton, ASU, UCLA, SDSU & Hawaii were basically the only competition around at the time. Since then, every Thomasina, Rickie and Harriet has started a softball program, so the competition is a lot tougher. That doesn't excuse a less than exceptable record, but Jo Evans doesn't have that- she wins games, she wins a lot of games, and she does it correctly, by the book.

For all of you softball know-it-alls who don't, Jo is an excellent coach. Anybody that advocates removing her is an idiot...

OK, so maybe "idiot" is a bit harsh.

The point is there is no justification for her removal, none at all. I know the lady very well, and she does a great job. My daughter wants to play for her, and hopefully one day she will. I would trust my daughter to Jo explicitly.

The Aggie softball program is in excellent shape with Jo Evans in every facet you can think of...

Jo Evans is not going to be fired, and I think that facilities only make a marginal difference in performance.

That being said, Jo Evans has won one NCAA tournament game since 1995. Wow. She's not bad, but her program is maybe the 5th or 6th best in the Big 12, and there are some others in the state (Houston, SWT) that are as good or better. I think most coaches win by the book, too.

I don't know what you're talking about with the top notch facilities. There is currently no locker room for the team. Yeah, the stadium seats 1700 (with narrow butts), but that's it. Most colleges have way better facilities than what is there.

Fullerton has a very nice park - nice padded seats, clubhouse overlooking the field, and a second practice field off to the side. UCLA has something similar to what you have (but with locker rooms), but most programs have more than just permanant bleachers and batting cages.

Anyone that thinks A&M has a top 10 facility in Softball or Baseball is living in the past. Go out and take a look at other facilities, it will open your eyes.

... EASY THERE ... if Olsen is not a top 10 facility today (and I think it is), then its not far off. AND, Olsen is about to be updated ... so, in your opinion, if it is not a top 10 now, it will be in the near future.
