Has anyone seen recent coverage of the "MMA for kids" movement? It's basically a bunch of 5-8 year olds, in nothing but shorts, rash guards and MMA gloves - and they bang hard. One video showed a kid working a knee-bar and another had a different kid in a modified crucifix dropping elbows (while the kid on the bottom cried and ran to his parents after the match).

I like to watch MMA and I train in BJJ (gi), but full contact fighting looked really tough for kids around 5/6 years old from both a physical and mental standpoint. Thoughts?

I saw one of the ESPN reports about this and some of the things the kids were doing in their fights were pretty scary. The kids just didn't look properly trained to be picking someone up and dropping them on their head. It really looked like these elementary aged kids could get seriously hurt doing this.

I am all for the professional adult MMA fights or whatever, but these kids need proper training before they are trying to imitate what the adults they see on TV are doing.

my kid can beat up your kid!(jk, i dont have kids)

Yea, I've seen a few specials on this now. I think kids learning technique is one thing, but actually having 2 five year olds pounding on each other is a little much.
