rockethorn sounds very defensive. i'm not calling any names, and i'm not whining. the teams were dead even, and both played well. yes, #1 dubs choked on 2 match points. it shouldn't have ever been in doubt. however...
regardless of whether or not you will admit to it, calls were greatly in favor of the horns(which i semi-understand, since it was in austin). newp was screwed late in the third when simon hit a 100+ mph serve that was so close that newp had no choice but to play it, and then simon stops in the middle of the point to appeal to the judge, and the judge overruled and called it in and gave the point to simon. this gave simon a 40-15 lead instead of a 30 all tie, if i remember correctly. not only was this poor judgement, since the serve was so hard and newp had the best view, but it is also EXTREMELY rare for any shot that is called in to be overruled and called out. i've seen lots of college and competitive junior tennis, and i've never seen it happen.
however, this call pales in comparison to khaled getting hooked at 4-4 in the third. khaled was right on top of the ball and could have returned it if he needed to, and he called it out. gubser halfheartedly appealed as the horn fans screamed and booed, and the judge changed the call. it's only one point, but any competitive tennis player knows how that can change a match. both teams played hard today, and though we shot ourselves in the foot on at least two occasions, it is a shame that a few bad calls decided the match.
like you said, it was a good match regardless, and we'll meet again in the tourney, on OUR home court. and thanks, we'll need some luck for the baylor match.
p.s. sorry, but spare me the sore loser crap...i've been hooked in lots of big matches and know how bad it sucks. had the above calls been the correct ones i would admit it, because the game of tennis is one where honesty is paramount, and is cheapened when cheating occurs.
p.p.s poor aggies was very classy, expecially at a tennis match. if you must be juvenile, save it for the football field.
