Wow. I knew he was fighting Hamil, but I didn’t know it was at 205. I thought Matt was dropping to 185.

I guess he knows he cannot get back to the top at MW, so why not try 205?

rich is a tough spot right now because he's clearly established himself as the #2 MW, but there's a huge gulf between him and anderson silva.

but you can't use him as a gatekeeper because he'd maul just about every other MW contender.

about the only intriguing fight for him at MW right now is dan henderson.

at MW, one of his biggest advantages was that he is a big MW and usually much stronger than his opponent. that obviously won't be as much of a factor at 205 and he'll have to work more on using his speed to his advantage.

the fight with hammill is dangerous for him because you run the risk of matt taking him down and controlling him for 3 rounds. if matt chooses to stand and trade punches like he did with bisping, i could see franklin picking him apart.

Yep. Pretty much my thoughts, too.

It some ways (not all), it is similar to Matt Hughes. He is bigger, stronger, and dominated his opponents due to his size for so long he really didn’t have any challengers. Then, enter a far more athletic striker, and he suddenly gets exposed.

Rich will still be bigger than some LHWs but not many. He’ll really need to get more precise with his striking, and more importantly, improve his stand up defense. I’m not sure he has the chin to compete full-time at 205.
