So which member of the US team does NBC's Today Show have an extended interview with? Not the last US swimmer who beat the crap out of the best French team swimmer to win the race, but the black kid who almost lost it for us. I'm sorry, but that bites the big one!
Cullen Jones proved he was the 4th fastest American at trials and by his split in the prelims swim. The only fault with his race was his slightly slow start compared to GWG and Lezak, who had incredible reaction times (.06 and .04 secs). Jones was .04 slower than he was in prelims including a slower start. Jones was racing Bousquet - who swam 46.6 in prelims (fastest time of prelims) - and swam another 46.6. Jones looked comparatively slower. But Jones didn't almost lose it any more than any of the guys on the team.
Jones is finished racing at the Olympics. The other guys all have races coming up and may have already gone to bed or were at the pool warming up. So Jones is available for interviews.
AnotherAg1... shut up. Nothing racial what so ever.
As everyone else said, he is done for the week unlike the others. He earned his spot on the team as the fastest prelim split. His performance in finals was equally as fast and was definitely a very very strong split.
The others are happy to be left alone to focus on their other events.
We were commenting on why he was interviewed and the others were not. We were saying that the others will get their time in the spotlight when they are done swimming. Our comments were not pertaining to the content of the interview. We are all aware that his philanthropy is to educate minorities on water safety.
I listened to the interview when I first saw it. The screwed up the video they wanted Cullen to comment on.
Cullen is a great swimmer and a great figure for the sport. Studies show that a huge percentage of black kids do not know how to swim at all. Jones and USA Swimming are working to change that.
