I don't know the details of the remaining track events, but I was hoping we'd gain some ground on the Chicoms on the gold medal tally once track started. Seems like the freaking Jamaicans are winning everything so far. Can any track experts tell me what to expect regarding expected track medals?

USA track and field isn't remotely what it once was. the days of Michael Johnson, Jackie Joyner, Carl Lewis, etc. are long gone. that said, the US team may be a little more well-rounded in some ways even though it's lean on stars. i think i've read where roughly 20 medals could be the US haul.

Several dozen US Track athletes are believed to have had food poisoning. They aren't sure of the reason. The US shipped tons of food in, so this wouldn't happen, but they had to rely on some local things... like cooking oil, and vegetables. The Water on the veggies is one potential source.

If it was sabotage, then that needs to be published. If it was stupid preparation, then shame on them. Anyone who eats veggies in a 3rd world country, uncooked, and washed with local water, is dumb, and doesn't deserve to win a medal, IMO.

We already have 9 total T&F medals (2g, 3s, 4b) with many more to come. We may not be what we used to be, but we will still clean up.
