from played his best doubles match of the year today. skube wasn't his usual self, but played well. ante and bauer played HUGE dubs beating their number 3. newp and lester also played good, and probably would have won if the match was completed.
newport won a great match against simon, probably his best all-around match of the season...good serving, grounstrokes, net game, and mental toughness.
skube never really got going, and lost a tough match to domanski, who was very confident after his easy match last nite.
from lost to echagary, but not without putting up a fight and leaving it all on the court.
khaled had his chances, but gubser didn't blink. it went three sets and there were alot of breaks late, just like in austin.
ante is just a pimp. after going down with what appeared to be cramps while up in the second set, he broke back from down 5-6 to send it to a tiebreak. he was clutch in the breaker, bombing several serves and beating hoskins from the baseline. he's just a freshman...
lester played another clutch match against zarhi. the chair ump was horrible and lost control of the match early on. almost every call was being questioned, mostly by zarhi, and she was overruling on nearly every other point. *both* players made close calls, and i refuse to get into an argument about it, but zarhi was hooking and playing the ump for most of the match. lester played through it all, and got the crowd into it. he simply wanted it more.

hopefully everyone gets some rest tonite, and we can come out and play as good, or better tomorrow. if we play dubs the same, we will win the point. the big matches, IMO, are newport and skube. that's it for me...anyone else?

UT cheated again, but still lost? We're so good we can cheat on your home court. Obviously not good enough at cheating to overcome the huge discrepancy in talent.

yes...they cheated again, and lost. no...obviously they're not good enough at cheating to make up for their lack of talent. have a nice evening flamer.

Had a friend that went and said it was a great overall match. Especially coming down to the last singles match. Obviously, there are going to be calls that go either way, and I don't expect any of us to agree who gets the most.
Human nature, and more importantly, school loyalty will never allow us to think clearly on the issue.

Bottom line is, congrats to the Ags. Go out there and beat the hell out of the European professional team at Baylor.

And go Lady Horns!! (had to get that in)

Great tennis today. Any Ag sportsman out there should come to the matches tomorrow. You do not have to be a tennis buff--2years ago I was not, but today it was exciting to go to the courts and watch the Ags. Today was special since the Ags beat the sips---as arrogant as they were and as much as they tried to sway the game with bad calls and a lot of pressure from their coaches to the "chair". Ags we have a great coach in Tim Cass. He seemed to know how the overall match was going to go and spend most (almost all) of his time with Lester Cook, the freshman that had to pull it all out at the end. Coach Cass calmed him down when the sip tried to intimidate the ref, and made some horrible line calls. We saw a lot of heart from the Ags today and I look forward to playing Baylor's senior, pro line-up tomorrow.
I do not want to overlook the Lady Ags. They did really great today to get to the Finals by defeating KU. They showed a lot of heart to come back after losing the doubles point. They get to face the sips tomorrow and will thus get more of my attention---it is unfortunate that the Big 12 format calls for having the finals in the men and women at the same time. Ags come out tomorrow and enjoy some good tennis and a chance to pull for a Champion or two.

We don't have a single senior on our team, mostly freshmen and sophs.

Nope no seniors -- no Americans either, save one walk-on who doesn't play.

I said going into the match that it would come down to doubles and third singles and it did. Except we won at five and lost at one. Oh well, great match and with the exception of the guy that yelled out foot fault as Simon was serving and a double fault yell on match point at three I thought that it was well played and overall good sportsmanship. Nothing changed the match. Just close as nails with ATM coming out on top this time. Now we move on....Rocket

Rocket: I don't know when I have seen two teams as evenly matched as A & M and Texas. Both the match in Austin and here yesterday were terrific college matches and could have gone either way. Unfortunately, as you predicted, we used a lot of energy yesterday, and we ran out of gas this afternoon. Ante looked like he was going to die on the court and was totally out of it in the second set. It looked like we might get something going after we won the doubles point, but I guess it was not meant to be. I hope everything works out for both of us with the NCAA selection committee.

Raven...if the shoe had been on the other foot and we had played baylor I am not sure it would of been any different. We would of been just as spent. Its hard to come back from a huge knock down drag out rival match to win the next day. No way anyone is going to beat bu at one and two however the very top teams at nationals will be much better than them at dbls and down low. Liked Cass coment after the bu match in reference to the age difference between bu and atm. All the defense by the bears of their "dark lord" coach just continues to isolate their program as a renagade an corrupt island of win at all cost tennis. I will await the day when this is made right.

Again..enjoyed the tournament and hope to be back in three weeks.

Since it was brought up, I agree with Rocket about the "foot fault" hollering...that guy must have thought he was at a baseball game. I'm all for yelling at the refs when they need to get their heads in the game, but no cheap shots at the kids when their trying to concentrate.

Simon is a class act...he changed two of his own calls to Ryan's benefit, and questioned only one of Ryan's calls...he just didn't see Ryan's call on a very close serve.

I heard the guy yell foot fault several times. I was never able to tell who was doing it, but it was certainly unnecessary and from what I could tell uncalled for. When you get large crowds you will sometimes get people who get a little overboard, and I think Coach Cass and Coach Senter have both done a great job in dealing with the situations when things get a little out of hand.

It was a older gentleman, and I don't recall having seen him at any matches before Saturday, but I could easily be mistaken. He did have a very distinctive voice though...he did a lot of yelling in support of Lester and Ante both days, which was great.

I think I know who you are talking about. He kept yelling "Lester you're the man" and "Ante, Lester's got them under control" or words to that effect. I had not seen him either before this week-end and did not know he was the one yelling "foot fault". He was seated in the stadium club on Saturday and courtside Sunday. He put a lot into the matches and hopefully he will be back to support our kids, and leave the "foot fault" yell at home.

Isn't he the same guy who follows Tiger around the golf course?
