Don't know how the class was ranked. I think we got some nationally ranked women sprinters. Apparently we also got the track 10K NCAA men's champion from last year to transfer from A&M Corpus. See link for bio.

We got the top women performer from California - Vashti Thomas. She won either 3 or 4 events in the CIF finals. She had the top triple jump and long jump in the country and was one of the top 2 or 3 hurdlers in the US.

Watch for the A&M Home Cross Country Meet results this weekend... Shadrack Songok (3-time NCAA Champion (10k/5k) from TAMU-CC is currently in grad-school and will compete for one season).

The 2007 women's recruiting class was ranked No. 1 nationally: http://www.aggieathletics.com/sports/c-xctrack/spec-rel/111607aaa.html the year before that it was ranked No. 2 behind USC.

Shadrack will run indoor track, he does not have any outdoor track eligibility left. That means you can watch him on the new indoor track!

aggieco, you seem to know a bit. What happened to the Number 1 and 3 runners from the men's side last year, they not on the rosters?
Any freshman on the ladies or womens who we can expect great things from?

The men's top XC runner last year (Hebert) unfortunately decided to hang up the shoes early despite having an amazing junior year. (Toohey) is a native Aussie remains overseas and will unfortunately be unable to compete during the fall; however, will return for spring track. Nevertheless, with all things considered, the Men's team still managed to grab a #26 national ranking going into the season! (#2 in the South Central Region behind Arkansas... and ahead of TEXAS!!!!!!)

Shadrack is a beast. I wish he was going to be able to defend his 10K title this year during outdoor season.

is that #1 ranking for the girls that just stepped foot on campus or the ones that were with the team last year?

The 2007 Rankings are for the classes that entered in the fall of 2007. The 2008 rankings will probably be release next month.

Cross Country:

With Christina Munoz, Sarah Balfour, Elizabeth Slaughter, Meridith Snow, and Brooke Upshaw, I thought the Aggie women would be doing much better than they have – much, much better!

All are very experienced. I believe I am correct when I state that all five of these runners either are prior all Big12 Conference runners or are NCAA Championship qualifiers. Some are both.

A very rough estimate of the current (Oct 15) Big12 rankings of the women would be:

Baylor
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Colorado
tu
Aggies
Kansas
Nebraska
Kansas State
Missouri
Oklahoma
Iowa State

What kind of chance do the men and women have of winning it all this year? It would be amazing if we could win our first national championship in a long time right here in College Station

the CC coach is terrible. I mean terrible as a coach and I dont like him much as a person either. But he is good at recruiting so he stays.

I don't know about terrible, but it was a HUGE mistake not to keep Hartman when we made the transistion to Henry. Hartman was building something special here with the distance program.

From someone who knows all of the involved parties, Henry and Hartman would not have meshed well. Has nothing to do with what Hartman was doing.

The recent B12 performance of his teams (11th W and 4th M) was likely an embarrassment to Henry.

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about the track team but I think I remember hearing the women's team has had some major injury problems with several of its top runners...There is no way a team that has had three different individuals qualify for NCAA's three years in a row could finish 11th at Big 12's without that being case -- even if I was the CC coach

Also, based on how the track team has been performing at NCAA's the last few years, I would be willing to bet that there is a lot more scholarship money tied up in sprinters/jumpers/throwers than in the distances...that's where all the points have been scored it seems like at NCAA's, particularly in the sprints

I wouldn't say 4th is bad at all for the men. Whoever thinks this might want to do some more research.95 points is the lowest the men have ever scored since Coach Henry has had his staff in place, and maybe ever @ the Big 12 meet. The three teams that beat A&M are OK State (#2 in the nation) Colorado (never lost a Big 12 Championship until this one) and Iowa St. (was ranked as high as 11 earlier in the year, and it was there home course). The women have battled some injuries, just look at who was running last year, and who is running now, things will get better.
aggieco11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also, none of the teams that beat the men at conference are in A&M's region. The Ags are currently ranked 1st in the region, the top two teams automatically get a bid to the National Championships. By beating t.u. and Arkansas already this season, A&M could probably get 3rd and still get an at-large.
